I've got a horrible feeling that...

the upgrade price from Ozone 4 to 5 will be reasonable, but that the upgrade to 5 Advanced will be... eek!

the changes from 4 to 5 will be more 'cosmetic', while all the cool technical advancements - the stuff you really want- will be in, er Advanced!

Hope I'm wrong. I'm really not keen on 'split' releases.

Mind you, the GUI looks much better.

Found this helpful quote from an iZotope employee:

"I can categorically say that Ozone 5 will be the highest number version of Ozone we've ever released!"

My credit card is at the ready.

Yes, it's possible.  And that would fall into the category of "confused marketing" - meaning, confuse the consumer.  Doing so allows for all kinds of marketing tricks ;)

I downloaded the Ozone 4 demo a few weeks ago and only had a small amount of time to play with it. I really liked it and I can see why so many others here fell in love with it. This was before I knew about Ozone 5. Since I am not "upgrading" and would be outright buying the software from scratch I'll have a little investment in it but I believe the return will be worth it. I don't have much reference with O4 so I'll be starting with a clean slate in O5.
One of its biggest strengths IMO is the integral UI. You don't need to go very far to get a good result with several plugs designed as a unit together. In addition ,the plugs all sound good to my ears and do what they say they will do.
If I could have bought all the right stuff first, think of all the money I would have saved,lol.........

Ozone, regardless of version, has always been considered one of the best mastering plugins available.  I've yet to know  of anyone who doesn't think it is an excellent plugin.   So starting at 5.0 probably you'll be just fine.

"Your mix isn't finished until Ozone is on it"

Ozone 4 has the word Ozone in it so i'll 'finish' the mix with that. Unless you make the upgrade $99, which you should have done anyway.

I did not expect it to be this costly for an upgrade to the Advanced!  Wow, too much for me!  I will stick with Oz4 for a while which is doing just fine.

I don't think I'll be upgrading this go round, $149 is too much.

Very disappointing. $149 is too high, IMO. I bought Ozone 3 for $199, and the upgrade from 3 to 4 was $79.

And $399 to add a sonogram - although I admit it's very cool - seems ridiculous.

What are they thinking in this economy?

Right now I'm leaning toward spending the money I'd earmarked for the Ozone upgrade on FabFilter Pro-L instead.

I would have bought @ $79, and would have strongly considered up too $99.

It's been a disappointing year all around for upgrades far as I'm concerned,  I've passed on GR 5, X1E,  Amp 3 (ala carte), Melodyne 2,  and now Ozone 5.  Oh well at least I'm saving money.

$149 for an upgrade! No Way! I'll stick with Ozone 4 for a while.. I really don't see the extra features that would justify the cost! Scratch me off that list!

Peace!

Maybe they'll go the way of Waves & drop the prices when they see they're losing sales from their core customers.

Let me know who to contact about getting this reduced to a more acceptable $99. I don't mind sending a lengthy email outlining the reasons why.

I bought O4 boxed yesterday. I knew O5 was coming out but the deal was too sweet to pass up.
I got 3% through a coupon site and another discount from the vendor......If I understood the info on the Izotope site. Anyone buying O4 in November qualifies for a free O5 upgrade. Advanced would still cost me though.....

Yep, they've usually done a buy now and get the free update. Sometimes the vendors don't even send the old version you bought. They send the boxed new version. Nice.

It felt weird to pass on the Kontakt update. I never thought I'd do that. And I certainly never thought I'd skip an Ozone update! It's been a strange year.

Let's hope IKM is paying attention to this phenomenon, given the impending and much-anticipated SampleTank update.

Hi
Just upgraded to Ozone 5 (I got the free upgrade)
Have been trying it today briefly and have mastered one track I had already done with Ozone 4. My first impressions are:-
1) the GUI in 5 is so much better and easier
2)  I like the extra  post EQ module
3) The Limiter seems much better than before - I never liked the limiter in 4 and used to have it turned off and would use something else like elephant or Barricade

Overall in a very short space of time I produced a far better master than with 4 - I'm not sure whether the actual processes in 5 are superior to 4, or that it is just easier to get better results.
Further testing tomorrow!
Nigel
