does this mean there will be even more overly loud, distorted masters with no dynamics?

The formatting of those prices is out of whack (at least on my phone) - am I right in reading the price to upgrade from Ozone 5 to 6 as $99?

SO... I currently use a combination of some Waves plugins (Silver collection) and some of Sonar X3's built in stuff to do my mixing and mastering.... Seems like if I was gonna jump into using Ozone (which I've heard a lot of great things about), now would be the time with the sale and free upgrade to 6... What do you guys think? Think it's redundant with what I have or will it be worth the relatively small investment of $199. I currently use both Trash and Stutter Edit quite a bit, so I like iZotope's whole style...
Any thoughts?

That's how I see it. $299 for the advanced upgrade.

I can't think of a mix/master in the last couple of years that I did NOT have Ozone 5 on. Very worth the price.

Am I right that the main difference between 5 and 5 Advanced are the separated plugins? I think I have enough separate plugins that I could do without the Advanced then.

The price difference of ozone for the metering options just doesn't compute, though.

You would have to go to the website to compare for sure but I thought I purchased Advanced because the modules could be used separately, (nice for using on multiple tracks) and Insight metering was included. IIRC Insight was kinda high dollar when introduced.

Ozone Advanced adds a bunch of features, not just the separable plugs and Insight. Check iZotope's site for details. (I'd post a link here, but I seem to be unable to.) For anyone thinking of buying Ozone now, plugindiscounts.com has the best price I've seen. You might want to check to make sure you'll get the free upgrade to version 6 if you buy it from them. Cheers, Eddie

batsbrew does this mean there will be even more overly loud, distorted masters with no dynamics? I don't think it's fair blaming iZotope for the Loudness Wars. Besides, have you tried Ozone 5's "Intelligent III" limiter algorithm? Cleanest brickwall limiter I've ever tried. All in all, Ozone is a great app that has been of great value to me in learning about the relationship between the different processing options available for the master bus. And it's capable of some serious results when used right. The free "Mastering with Ozone" guide is immensely educational as well! You can certainly use a collection of other professional plugin FX to the same effect, but the way Ozone compiles the different tools makes a lot of sense to me, and makes the process fast and fun! I'm gonna do it. I'll be getting ready to mix and master my new album in a couple months so this comes just in time for me to dig in and figure it all out... My first album, while it sounds great and I'm perfectly happy with it, is a little low compared to other similar music... And of course, it can always sound better :-)

I am looking forward to this upgrade, I have been using Ozone 5 for over a year now. I am looking forward to seeing all the new features. The new purple/blue GUI looks interesting. A new redesigned interface sounds great and this feature sounds the most interesting so far, "Reinvent timeless sounds by harnessing the sonic texture of classic analog gear, then tweak with the surgical precision of digital software." I can't help but wonder, what sort of classic gear they are talking about?

They've abused the word "analog" from the beginning, and even though iZotope is one of the few companies you can consistently trust to get it right, the analog talk is still mostly marketing hype. I've been an Ozone user since version 2, but stopped upgrading after O4. O5's new intelligent release mode didn't do anything for me except gobble CPU cycles for breakfast. The prettier UI wasn't enough to justify an upgrade, as I'd become quite comfortable with the old one. Promises of more transparent aggressive limiting is a feature I rarely need, and when I do Pro-L fills that role nicely. But I'm definitely going to demo O6 and just might spring for it. I've been tossing coins into a vase since last December and probably have a hundred bucks in there by now.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I didn't think "Intelligent II" was any improvement over the first one, but "III" was a 150% improvement to me. I had gotten used to the "Ozone crunch" on mixes, but with "Intelligent III" it suddenly wasn't there anymore! It is crazy CPU hungry though...

That's what I'm afraid of on my limited PC, I have 4 & 5, but I often hit the wall on a lot of productions so I am going to wait and hopefully hear more about this...

This is the main reason I always bounce my mixes to a stereo wave file first - a Q9300 only has so much to offer up in the Ozone. But it's still one of my favorite plugins and has been since version 1 (only skipped 4).

I'm wondering if the 399.00 upgrade from a standard to an advanced version will stay when 6 is launched and 5 is a thing of the past. It was over 5 bills to upgrade before I think...if so there's no rush to decide...if not then maybe it's a good time for 5 users to look at upgrading to advanced if they want that functionality. If it goes back to 500.00 some of the interest goes away. Know what I mean?

$399 for Ozone to Ozone Advanced is a sale promotional price. Izotope regularly has sales. AudioDeluxe and Plugindiscounts.com can do upgrade pricing - not generally on their website ya have to email them for a quote. but you can get deals that way. Ozone 6 is supposedly going to be released after this Ozone 5 sale has ended. Ozone 6 will be released after November 1 is what 1 of the many emails I got said.
