P5 Beat Separator???

Can Project5 import a complete song and separate all the different tracks?

I didn't see anything in the book. Unless I'm using the wrong terminology?

Thank you

Mike

If you mean a midi song then the answer is yes. Although it will just import them, you'll have to apply proper instrumentation to them

The key is, when you import it and it says "Create track for each... (or something to that effect)" you say "Yes".

And then you have the joy of isolating the tracks, listening to the original, and piecing back the instrumentation one by one. This can have very very interesting side effects.

Accidental mistakes that sound good are a godsend .

Must admit I frequently tune out and do a complete instrument check on all the tracks on a project just to see what a lead might sound like as a bass line or even a pad line

Go back and read pfunque's original answer. The answer is "Yes" IF you are talking about Midi. I don't believe P5 will inmport an audio project and separate it into tracks.

    Spelling corrected

AFAIK there is no program that will isolate tracks on an audio file and allow you to separate them. The closest you can get is something that can take an audio file and strip the vocals/drums out of it, even then this is ropey since it actually inverts phase and feeds to the opposite speaker side so that any centred sounds are cancelled, leaving uncentred sounds still there (albeit altered). The closer an instrument is to centre the more it gets cancelled.

The technology has only become available in the last couple of years to be able to pull a midi file out of a monophonic line. Melodyne is the maker of this technology and I am unsure how advanced it is now.

Thank you syrath for your explanation.

A friend was telling me that FL6 can do it. I thought he meant in any format because he never said otherwise. And no, he isn't trying to sell it to me.

    Thank you!

And if there were such a thing, what kind of decimation might ensue, would anybody notice, would anybody care? Or, as the youngun's do these days, make an effect out of it.
    I just don't know.

No, for isolating a guitar so I can practice it and (more importantly) for collaborations involving a friend that doesn't have the necessary components to give a proper mix.

But I like your twist on it better.

Melodyne Studio is supposed to be able to "MIDI-fy" polyphonic audio tracks. Have not a clue how well it does the trick irregardless it will set you back 600 smackaroos.

    have a good one
