P5 error on start
Hello Got a bit of a P5 headscratcher; hope some kind soul can help. I sent this message to Cakewalk support about 12 hours ago, but as the webmail pages seem to be a bit squirrely at the moment (on post got the "broken site page") thought I'd put it up here in hope someone might be able to solve the problem before I tried reposting to support. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers, JohnF Message to support follows: Problem with Project5 version 2.5.1 On starting while initial splash screen showing message is: "Project5 has encountered an error and needs to close." Operating system is Windows XP Home SP3. Ondoard SoundMax is disabled. Sound card is M-Audio Delta. Project5 has been unistalled and reinstalled & system rebooted. All VST's have been excluded. Project5 was running normally until c.9 months previously; has not been used in interim. No software installs in that period apart from Windows updates. Full boot memory test has been run; no errors reported. No apparent problems with any other programs. Dr Datson failure log follows: Microsoft (R) DrWtsn32 Copyright (C) 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Have you tried removing any .ini files from the P5 directory? I think there is one called p5aud.ini (been a long time since I looked at the P5 directory, so I may be recalling incorrectly)...if so, try deleting that and seeing if that gets you anywhere. Will be interesting to see if you get any help from support, seeing as P5 is a dead duck as far as Cakewalk is concerned...

Thanks for suggestion xylyx; but I vaped the P5 directory before re-install, so I don't think that can be it. I'll prob. try another re-install and see if deleting aud.ini after makes any difference. And repost to Cake on the webmail pages; as I said, the site was acting weird last time, so quite likely they never got the message. Computers: making your life more interesting. :)

Re:P5 error on start SOLVED

Looks like Its sorted; thought I'd post this in case anyone else has a similar problem: Looking over the Dr Watson log I noticed among the runninfg tasks SynCor.exe I was sure this was not on the Task Manager list; looked again and it wasn't. Tried starting P5 again, P5 fails and there's SynCor.exe again in Dr Watson log AND now its in the Task Manager processes too. Ah ha. Google SynCore and it turn out to be associated with SoundMax MIDI functions. Somehow even though I'd disabled SoundMax in startup, BIOS, Defender etc. it was STILL being called up. So, find SynCor.exe in the Windows directory, rename it and put it in a back up folder, restart the computer, start P5 and bingo! it runs, popping up a message at start "cannot locate SoundMax MIDI". So far Project5 seems to be running fine again. Why the problem arose, who knows. I suspect the combination of P5, SynCor and a Windows update had somehow combined to cause a memory address problem, but it'll take someone more cluefull with computers than me to be definite. Anyway, Project5 is back and I'm a happy bunny again.

Cool, glad P5 is up and running. And thanks for the solved bit. That is always nice to have, just in case. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

The error with regards to the Soundmax card would suggest that Windows still has the driver installed for it, so even though it is disabled in the BIOS, the drivers must still be getting loaded on start up...you can probably get rid of the driver altogether by uninstalling if you wanted to. Also, unless the midi device is checked in P5's preferences, it really shouldn't care whether the device is present or not...
