an e-mail received by a fellow on KVR inquiring about the deal

Quite the news flash if Cakewalk is indeed making a new version next year.
    I wouldn't hold my breath

    Dear Musician,

Thank you for your recent inquiry. However, this software doesn't actually have any issues with it at all. This is a clearance item because Cakewalk is making a newer version sometime next year and are trying to get rid of there remaining stock for this product, and this software will be able to upgrade to the newer one when it comes out at a discounted price, also this product is only going to be at this price for today only, tomorrow it is going back up to the already discounted price, for the clearance, of 199.99. That price is the discounted price before this software was on stupid deal of the day it was selling for around 299.99. So we probably won't be able to discount it anymore. Regardless, if you for any reason in the future, would like to get a discount on one of our
products you will need to call us at the number listed below, we can't actually do it over emails or online.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns, or if you are not completely satisfied with the service you have received from us today. We appreciate your feedback.

We appreciate you choosing Musician's Friend. Have a great day!

Quick, get it today, only, special for you.

I wouldn't believe a Musician's friend seller about a new version of P5 - tho maybe that is what they will call the new SONAR.  And notice the typos - not good for a business email.  I mean, I'm guilty here at times, but this ain't business.

lies err,  misrepresentation and typos or perhaps confusion of homonym (there for their)

     what's become of Amercian business?

oh wait, we're discussing this on a forum for a discontinued product that's
hosted by a corporation in Boston in global parnership with a Japanese company

according to kvr the price did not go back up to $199, but $89

Ah, another mistake.  Maybe it is dropping $10 a day.

But the MF support is just some guy.  I mean, give him some points for at least trying to be helpful, even if he is wrong.  At guitar center, a lot of the people are wrong and a##holes to boot.

Reminds me, I have to pick up some mic cables and don't have time to online them :-(

This all started with the resurrection of the P5 Wiki.   Next thing you know, the harvested organs of Project5 will be repo'ed from Sonar, and reassembled into a lean product that makes sense.  Both in a musical and financial sense.  Project Re5ive - The Lazarus Edition.

I ran into a similar quandry recently.  The misinformation is not limited to the MF site, but it was ... enhanced by their Customer Service department.  I needed to replace my worn-out Digitech Whammy, and stumbled across this item.  Fifty dollars more than the standard 'red' version, but it added this feature:
MIDI In & Out/Thru to control pitch bends via cc's

At any site that you look into (including Digitech's), the ad copy is identical.  Calls to a live tech assure you that this is true.  That would be worth the extra $50.00 to me (as a controller pedal, and as a 'daisy-chain' device).  Now, look at the all of the angles in the images that were posted much later on.  MIDI In only; exactly like the standard 'red' pedal.

Moral of the Story:  Don't pay $50.00 for chrome.

    quick question...

is Project 5 and Mackie Onyx 1640i compatible?  I know Sonar is, but does Project 5 also work with it?  I dont see it in the list of programs.

    TIA

I'm not surprised it ain't listed - probably wasn't when P5 was new.  You shouldn't have any problems using P5 w/ any interface, as long as your computer likes it.  the Mackie's drivers will show up.

     midi out must be wireless
plus it's an anniversary edition with a numbered cerificate

incidentally when I was in Medford I didn't find Musician's Friend -- which is kind of odd because I saw a lot of Medford looking for the airport. You'd think the city fathers would post a sign on the freeway to indicate the airport exit, but it doesn't seem to be a priority. There's no airport signage until you're close enough to see the tower. The rental car didn't have a navigation system, but they did provide directions on how to bring the car back -- if only we'd been smart enough to look there before we began to ask the locals how to get to their airport.
