Hi Jay
All I can say is WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
=> Is your x2 4800 running at stock speed or have you overclocked it at all ?
=> Did you run the test with ASIO or WDM drivers ?
=> Does the CPU bounce around at the 2.9ms setting, or just mainly at the 1.5ms setting ?
I have an O/C SD3700+ A64 running at 2.8gig with 1mb cache [effectively an FX57], and my results are:-
1.5ms 50%
2.9ms 35%
5.8ms 29%
11.6ms 24%
23.2ms 22%
46.4ms 20%
Scott Reams just posted a dual-CPU dual-core Opteron 275 system (four cores) - [2.2gig with 1mb cache per core] x 4 and those results are:-
1.5ms 39%
2.9ms 25%
5.8ms 16%
11.6ms 13%
23.2ms 12%
46.4ms 11%
Now Jay ...... your x2 4800 [ 2.4gig 1mb cache @ ] x 2
1.5ms 43% (jumps to 93%)
2.9ms 25%
5.8ms 18%
11.6ms 14%
23.2ms 12%
46.4ms 10%
So …… with the exception of the 1.5ms setting, your A64 x2 4800 is EQUAL to a dual-cpu –dual-core opteron system !!!
That is FREAKIN AWESOME !!!!!!!
Now, for a bit of economics ..... using prices off
www.froogle.com: Jay's DAW
1 x A64 x2 4800 cpu approx. 1 x $917US = $917US
Socket 939 Dual Core Board ie: Asus A8V = $79
Scott's Clients DAW
2 x Opteron Dual Core 275 approx 2 x $1322 = $2644US
Dual Core Opteron 275 Board ie: Tyan Tiger K8W 8151 = $223
Jays' DAW = $996US
Scotts Clients DAW = $2867US
Now …… unless (a) you have a LOT of cash to burn OR (b) you just HAVE TO HAVE the quicker DAW, why anyone would spend nearly 3x the price for a
%10 lower CPU reading at 1.5ms [ ie: 39% vs %43 ] is beyond me.
Jay, you have made me want to go out and get a x2 Dual Core cpu
Damn … I had a feeling those X2 A64’s were going to be better than my FX57 equivilent, but I had no idea just how much better they would be !!
Thanks again Jay,
Tim
