PC4K Type Limiter. Anyone enlighten me please?
I've noticed when using ACT to control the PC4K compressor that there is an Analog limiter enable available to select via an ACT button. It doesn't seem to have any corresponding GUI button. It seems to enable visually in the ACT properties box but difficult to tell whether it actually does anything. There doesn't seem to be any sort of indicator on the UI. I've played back the same section of a song with the FreeG meter on the master buss with it enabled and with it disabled. There is consistently 0.5dB lower peak levels with it enabled. So questions? Does it work? If it does why is it accessible only via ACT? Or is it on the main UI somewhere and I can't see it?

Hello, The Limiter you are seeing is actually an input limiter, not an output limiter. It is on by default and it is a bug that has been logged that it is available in the automation. It works to emulate a certain famous bus compressor, and that function happens behind the scenes, and there should be no control for it. Hope that helps, sorry for the confusion!

Aha, we get our very first inkling into what makes the PC special in some way. There is a limiter sitting in front of the compressor to make the it seem easy to *drive*. I'm guessing the floating point engine just wouldn't sound squished enough without it. :-) Now we are getting somewhere. Great find FBB. best, mike

That is interesting... I have only started to experiment with it and one thing I found out is that the little screw beneath the needle to be turned to change the background from black to neon blue. 9edit: strike that, just clicking the display changes it which probably everyone already knows.

Josh, Is this "hidden" limiter always on when using the PC4K? If so, is it simply an internal element of of the PC4K module or is it adjustable in some way? I am not following this very well. Rimshot

Hi Rimshot Hopefully Josh wil clarify but as I understand it the limiter is always on and shouldn't be adjustable in anyway. However a bug is allowing it to be turned on & off via ACT or automation, but that shouldn't happen. that's what I read from the reply anyway.
