PCIe sound card with i7

Help, I'm slightly confused. I'm looking at a new i7 920 to run SONAR, JABB, GPO etc.

The configuration specs lists PCIe slots (express?) but no PCI slots. I assume that a PCI card will not work in a PCIe slot, eliminating things like m-audio audiophile 2496.

Is this incorrect? Does anyone know of PCI express audio cards that will work well with SONAR. I suppose I could use a firewire interface, but a card would be nice.

Thanks for any advice.

PCi is a dying architecture. Newer mobo's might nnot have them. If you need PCI slots, i would guess that some new i7 might have them. it might take a bit of looking to see.

LOL, FW is dying out also. USB2.0 is going to be the man if it isnt alreasy. dont worry, FW isnt going anywhere fast. yuo have years before it disapears..

    Hi buxtehude,

Welcome to the forum. My new GA-EX58-UD4P does include a pair of regular old PCI slots, so the option of using a 2496 is available. You cannot use PCI cards in the newer PCI Express slots.

    8.5.1 PE, i7 920, GA-EX58-UD4P, 6gb Corsair DDR3, 2 x Barracuda 500gb, HIS Radeon GS-4670 Fanless 1gb DDR3, XP Pro SP3, dual 24" monitors, Axiom 61, Korg Triton Pro, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, VG-99, Yamaha MSP5, Fostex PM0.5
