PIANOROLL VIEW SETUP

hi there...i would like to ask for some advice about the following issue:

i was just wondering how you setup the pianorollview in order to just see midinotes in that layer that i select...
actually it doesnt make much sense to me to be able to work with multilayers on a track and everytime i doubleclick one of the midiclips i see all the notes off the track...(all layers together)
am i missing some simple setup or is it just like that???

thanks

    Hi Luke-

You can hide muted clips in PRV in S7 (finally!), but you can't select only certain Track Layers in a MIDI Track to show, AFAIK. Excellent idea!

You might want to post an official Feature Request here: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/featurerequest.asp

thanks susan - i am almost a bit sad to hear this - i guess it would be a sort of vital aspect of using multiple layers...if i again have to mute those i dont wanna edit ...thats a bit stiff....

i was hoping that there was some hidden option for doing it the easy way :-)

    cheers

btw susan - i just tried what you said and in the end you cant even really hide them - the only change is that they have less color - but you can still edit them....weird

    No, you can hide them.

Open the right side pane in the view, where the tracks are listed.

Then click on the color block to turn off the tracks you don't wish to see. Those notes disappear, and the color block turns white. Click that spot again, and they appear.

hmmmm.... i just recorded two layers of midi to a track but they both have the same color - so again what should i do???
    i only can deselect all

are you talking about viewing more midiclip layers of more than one miditrack???

    thanks

    Nope,

First, you can change the color with Track properties, but the color doesn't matter.

Select 2 or 3 MIDI Tracks in the Track View, and open the Piano Roll View.

In the Piano Roll View, make sure you're displaying the Track Pane. You should see your 2 or 3 tracks listed here. If not, then you don't have them selected.

You'll notice each track has a colored square and a white square above the M S R buttons. These are the controls I'm talking about.

The colored square controls track visibility. The white square is the track enable.

hi thanks for your quick reply - i just tested what you suggest and i come to the conclusion that we are talking of two different things:
i want to edit separately the content on ONE layer (of many) assigned to only ONE miditrack...
what you suggest only works with MORE miditracks
...i did exactly what you wrote but it doesnt work on the single layers...ill post a screenshot ....

so actually after all the testing i now know that - as susan said - i have to mute the individual layers to not have them in edit (and to select this hiding in the menu on the higher left corner of the pianoroll) - funny that it doesnt work if you mute one of the layers via the small mute buttons on the trackproperty part (dont know how to call it - anyway the row of 3 green shortcuts displayed on my screenshot)....hmmm just a matter of getting used to it - but at least there lascks a cosistency of the editing logic...(at least i can do what i want in ONE way )

Hi kwgm, I think Info is talking about layers and not tracks.

Oops, sorry about that Info, you got in while I was posting.

    right T.S.

but fortunately now i know HOW to what i wanted to do

still its funny how unhomogen some features are - where are the developers that forgot to assign the connection between mute an invisibility in that other way of muting layers ??? i guess they should be hiding themselves in shame

Sorry -- thought you were working with tracks.

Can't help you with layers -- there's a feature that's not quite ready for prime time.
