PLEASE PLEASE!! SOMEONE ANSWER THIS QUESTION FOR ME, ADDING LOOPS TO A MOVIE SCORE?
I've asked this before here on this forum, and no one seems to be able to answer for me for about a year, I can't for the life of me figure it out. I have a movie that I am scoring and I want to add a loop from loopmaster to the project. Is there a way to slow down the loop without slowing down the project tempo. And yes I have tried to slow down the loop from within the loop groove setting. It does not work. Again, is there a way to slow down the loop WITHOUT touching the project tempo. When I slow down the project tempo to change the loop, my movie shifts and the previous music before it is out of place. PLease there has to be somebody that scores movies with Sonar x1 that has found this out, if not, this is such a huge inconvenience that Sonar overlooked.

Have you tried to stretch the audio?

Seems to me that if you want to add a loop that sounds different, you should alter the loop before inserting it. Try using something like Soundforge or audacity to make the loop conform to the time/length you need and then insert it. Brian

@John when I stretch the audio it loses the loops sound quality. When I change the loop in the project tempo it sounds like I want it BUT the movie and my previous tracks shift and becomes out of time.

There are a couple of ways of handling this. Make a new Sonar file (save as), change the tempo, export the loop the way you like it to audio, then open the original Sonar file and import the new audio version of the loop back in. You should be able to change tempo and get everything back into sync also. I do that sort of thing a couple of times a week. The safest way is create a sync "pop" (with audio or midi that is 1 frame long) after the area that you want to change the tempo. Make note of the tempo and frame at this sync pop. If the new tempo is faster you will need to insert a bunch of measures, so insert say like 40 measures right before your sync pop. Do your tempo changes and edit the music cue the way you'd like. When you are done, and have the 1st music cue the way you'd like it, Cut out the measures and beats so as to try to line up your sync pop as close as you can to where it is suppose to be in the time line. You should be able to get it with in frames of it's original place, then you can use the "fit to Time" or "Put Measure/Beat at Now" or manipulate the time signature and slide everything, to get your sync pop and subsequent music cues back into the exact original frame and tempo. There are a lot of functions that will work here, there are so many variables, you need to pick the best function for the situation. You just have to be careful when you are adding, inserting or cutting measures/beats. Make sure you are editing all the tracks as you might be moving some clips and not others and everything will be out of sync and be a nightmare to fix. Make back up files. I do this so often, it takes me less than a minute to line everything back in. It'll just take a little practice and a little thought. If i can do it anyone can. Oh yea, don't forget to delete your sync "pop" after you are done...

More choices: [A.] After stretching the clip you could bounce it using one of the better offline algorithms so it sounds better. Or: [B1.] Select the clip. [B2.] Turn off looping (ctrl-L). [B3.] Use "Process -> Length" from the main menu. [B4.] Choose the proper length for your clip. [B5.] Select one of the algorithms in that dialog. [---] This will stretch and render the clip using an offline (slower) algorithm that will give you a decent sound (try them to find the best).

you should be able to drop the loop in right where you want it,then grab the far right of the loop / hold down the alt button(the loop will turn yellow) make sure your using the smart tool.now stretch the loop to where you want it and your done. your not as much slowing the loop down as makingit fit(you are slowing it down) but you need to think of it as stretch to fit.

if it's a midi loop, I believe you can alter the tempo in just one or two measures (or more) and return to the original tempo with ease.... If it's audio, I would suggest the work around already suggested above. Open the loop in a new project...alter the tempo using the audio stretch or one of the other tools available on the market that will change tempo....and then save it and import it into the project. In Sonar, in the original scoring project, add a new track and import the loop into that new track and simply drag it to where you need it to be and use cross-fade envelopes to bring it in and back out. Done.... the easiest way I know how.
