PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT CRAZY!

Aside from the MIDI SOLO bug, now when I copy or move an audio clip to another track in X2a Producer, it is silent. The original audio around it plays but when the NOW LINE reaches the new clip it's like muted.

What in the world is this thing called SONAR??

OK, so I thought to "Bounce to clips" and sure enough... it flat lined as if nothing was there.

I've just tried moving an audio clip around in X2 and it plays wherever I put it, even on top of an existing clip.

That's how it should work and normally does. This particular project has generated a plethora of odd behaviors. It may be corrupt due to the fact that I've created 30 sequential versions (hmmm, almost sounds like a song) and each one carries with it more bugs.

    You're not crazy. I got this in X2 a few times. :/

I imported vocal tracks into a project. Everything worked as expected. Then the next day when I opened the project the vocals didn't sound. I couldn't figure out why, because they weren't muted and they showed waveforms and everything. After a while I did what you did; tried to bounce to clips and after that they just showed a flat line visually..

So it's not new to Sonar X3.. (don't know if that's good or bad though). What I know is that it's annoying and also very hard to replicate.. :/

Haha.. Oh, yeah you're right! I guess I read the original post too fast there.. :P
Well.. Let's hope the problem's gone in X3, then.
I can confirm that this problem exists in X2a though

Yes. I have had this happen and I lump it in with the myriad of infuriating glitches I am referring to when I talk about the "Selection Bugs". Once it starts happening it will only get worse as you move forward. You can try going back to an earlier version of the project (I now have to Save As after pretty much every few moves). The other thing I do if that is not possible is I start locking the Pos/Data of all clips in the project and then unlock as a work (huge PITA time waster but it forces the clips to stay where they are).

In your case, because it is affecting the actual clip you are trying to move perhaps what you could try is lock the Data part of the clip only then make your move. I think when this happens it is doing some kind of processing/setting change on the audio in the background. By locking the Data you may be able to prevent this change from occurring.

Gawd... I'm getting angry just thinking about it. Grrr...

    Good luck.

It just gets better and better.

So we're now back to the "Unable To Open Audio Playback Device In X2a Even Though It's There And Works Great In Sonar X1d" bug stated in an earlier post.

So I saved this project in X2a and opened it in X1d Expanded and the whole song plays slower and an octave lower.

Maybe my laptop is on the way out. It does get mighty hot though the fan is running normal.

Sounds like the project samplerate has changed between X2 and X1. Make sure you have the samplerate set the same and it should play back normally. Cheers.

Right on. Yeah, once things start getting hairy it's easy to overlook the simple things which add to the frustration. I usually take a smoke break when that starts happening so the DAW doesn't become airborne. ;-)

Same here.  I don't know how the lucky ones used Sonar X2, but for the things I do on a regular basis, there are bugs-a-plenty of this nature!

Did you make sure the clip didn't wind up in a muted take lane?

I'm still convinced these selection issues are due to the implementation of Touchscreen and Win8 support before the actual release of Win 8 and actually being able to fully test the touchscreen stuff with the final MS product (touch wasn't fully implemented until the "a" patch so that means they coded a bunch of stuff in preparation for it but how could they know how the final MS release was going to react... even MS had to release a patch).

It really should have been a skin. The A patch came out after the final release of 8 so I can only assume that those who had no problems at all were using Win8 and/or had superior graphics capabilities on their systems (like mid to high range graphics cards still supported by their manufacturers unlike the older Gigabyte card I have which is great for pretty much everything but may not be doing so well with touch integrated programs).

I really have no need for touch and frankly it woudl cause me physical pain to reach out and have to tweak things that way. I've also watched some vids where the guys were using it and it really does not even seem to be a very good or accurate way to work even under ideal conditions. Live? Sure, but in the studio my stationary trackball obliterates that touch madness.

It really should have been a skin that could be added to the program. Not jumbled right into the main code. I also think this is why we didn't get a patch. It would have been too much work to gut out the mess for a simple patch and they decided to focus on fixing these issues in X3... which is why I really wish they would release a stripped out version of X3 Pro for $50 to simply gives us disgruntled X2 users the patch we so desperately need.

FWIW, Win7 x64 and a generic 1GB graphics card here.   I would actually love a good touchscreen but it's beyond of my budget.

I THINK I narrowed it down to the ASIO drivers acting up. I disabled them and rebooted the computer.

Today... SO FAR... everything is working fine.

Except for the "SOLO - Flashing Tracks Visual Effect" syndrome this project has acquired. Can't figure that one out but it doesn't seem to cause any trouble so I'm putting up with it for now.
