PLUG INS

hi to you all.
i have a a question about plug ins as i am not sure of the answer.
i have a bass track which was recorded form a midi file and it is how i want it to be apart from the sound. i changed the sound to suit the nearest sound to a double bass with the sd2 i use before i recorded it to a audio file please can you tell me if it is possible to change the sound of the audio file with a plug in ? i do not want to edit the fill as this has been done with the plug ins within sonar 8.5. i just want to change the sound .
whilst watching some tutorials on youtube i noticed that other users of sonar were using a plug in called waves and as the name is wave i take it this may change the sound as to what i want.
many thanks tj

You have access to a whole host of plugins inside 8.5 - just right click the Fx bin of the audio track and choose one.

Start off by looking at one called "Sonitus EQ" - this is a very good quality and extremely flexible Equalizer.

If you're as new to this as I suspect you are, do a bit of reading on 'Bass EQ' & 'Bass Compression'.

A quick Google search will show thousands of results.

You can even narrow the results down depending on what genre you're working in - for example type in 'Bass EQ for Metal'

    CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout

hi thanks for the advise will take on board what you are saying.
i have been looking at some plug ins which are all separates as i do like the sound of one called trilogy true bass as this is only for bass tracks . are you better to get sperate plug ins for which ever sound you would like to create or would you be better to get a multi plug in which has more features to use but maybe not as good as separates.
the type of music i play is good old rockerbilly so what advise would you offer

    • multi sound plug ins
    • plug ins for each type of instrument i use as i only ever use double bass, basic drums, with a gretsch guitar which i have a true rockerbilly sound so i dont need a plug in for that instrument.
    • does wave diamond plug in work on wave files or midi or both and can you get plug ins that will change the sound ie from an electric bass to a stand up bass and so on
thanks for you time and advise  tj

I think you confused people as you said you now have an audio track that you don't like the sound of. Audio Plug ins are also called EFX plug ins.
VST are MIDI sound generating which is what I believe you are inquiring about.

Sonar comes with a large selection of VST instruments.
The TTS-1 is general MIDI multi channel  so has those same sounds you find built into your computers sound card, but they have many enhancements using the GUI mixer you can edit the sounds and add efxs. There is a few bass sounds there, one is an  acoustic bass but they are certainly not great.
Sonar has a virtual Bass plug in and there are a few free downloads at KVR web site. I was told "Broomstick Bass" is very good. But, sorry I've never used these things as I play real bass.

I just read your post again and I think there's one other item to make clear.
To use a new "sound" with the VST instruments you must use the original MIDI track.
Once you bounce to audio all you can do then is add efx's plug ins like EQ and compression. These will not make a radical difference to the "sound"

It is best to edit your MIDI track until you are happy with it. There is no need to bounce this track to audio as it will be converted when you export the finished song.
The only reason one would bounce to audio is if their CPU or memory was starting to be maxed out.
