PRV Controller Pane Feature Requests
Please help me name some improvements to the PRV controller pane. I'll move it to the feature request forum after collecting and summarizing. I know it's not possible, but at least try to restrict comments to the subject. There's no need to say, here, no I don't like that -- save it for the feature request forum. I use the word "Lane" to describe one of the horizontal strips shown in the PRV Controller Pane -- not sure of its correct name.

1. Disable "grab the value" as a default for the 'Smart Tool'. Or make a way to draw without catching on the existing value.

4. In a group of tracks shown together in a single PRV, allow controllers from a track OTHER than the currently active track to be visible (not necessarily for change, just for visual reference).

5. Provide a way to combine all midi channels for one MIDI CC# used in a given track into one unbroken controller lane. Alternately, provide a way to see each midi channel for a given track and a given controller in multiple lanes.

6. When using the 'draw tool' to make individual values with a mouse click, do NOT change the tool to some other weird thing on mouse up. (edit -- maybe this was fixed in recent Platinum revs? does not seem to be the problem it used to be?)

7. Allow for two-tier grid lines -- for instance, quarter notes heavier or different color than 16th notes when grid set to 16ths. It can be very difficult to read which is which on a big window with the quarter way up at the top -- and with the current cursor position in white using a different justify setting than the grid numbers themselves.

8. Fix the cursor number justification -- it's silly to have the cursor on the beginning of a note, at a quarter, and see the cursor number in white center-justified right over a right justified bar and beat number. That cursor number might be optional, too --- you'd think it would come and go with the "tool-tip" preferences, but it doesn't.

11. New dialog for choosing controller lanes to add: a) MULTIPLE SELECTIONS without closing the dialog and having to open it again one at a time. b) include a "show all for track" (active track only if multiple tracks) option c) include a "show all for all tracks" option.

Are you referring to the "Move" function? (where the cursor turns into a cross made up of arrows?) In Sonar 8 there were just 3 tools. Selector/Edit/Delete. If you pressed the "Alt" key, then no matter which tool was active, it turned into the Move tool. I really still prefer that, especially when the song starts to fill up and I have to zoom out. The Smart tool is then difficult to use because the notes start to get small. I so often change duration instead of moving, for example.

That's right -- in the controller pane, smart tool, when you move the mouse cursor near to the horizontal line representing the last recent value the cursor changes to the 'move tool' cursor, then the only thing you can do is move a value up or down, you can't even move it horizontally. While some people might want that sometimes, as the only and default action it is not a good design. And if you use 'ALT' with the smart tool in the Controller Pane, it turns into ERASE. Another uncommon thing that would be better off taken out.

Some darn john moved this to the feature forum prematurely, against my wishes, before it had been organized. May he burn his fingers for it.
