PRV: Note length

From what I read, others have also noticed that the note length now stays at one beat, whereas it used to follow the last note processed. There was talk of this being fixed but I am now using X1e Expanded and it still seems to be the same. has it been fixed and I am missing a switch? Thanks for any help

Yes, it works in X2a. You just need to set the Event Draw Duration to Last Touched. The Event Draw Duration is located in the Tools module of the Control Bar or in the Tools HUD (press T).

Also, "touched" means that you actually have to click on the note, you can't just hover over it.

Another nice touch in X2a is that you can dynamically drag note length during placement.

OK. I gather it was never fixed in X1, then As I said I am using X1. Given what I went through with X1a, there is no way I am touching X2 until it has a few updates.

I thought "last touched" worked in X1 (once it was added) but it's been a while so I can't be sure.

This feature definitely worked in X1 Expanded - even my failing memory recalls this.

X1a was indeed extremely bug ridden - so was X1b, it was only on the release of X1c that I gained a semblance of stability on my system

X2a is a continuation of this and so far seems to be the most stable release of all

"I thought "last touched" worked in X1 (once it was added) but it's been a while so I can't be sure. " I reckon it works _sometimes_. It has suddenly worked then gone away next session. shrug.

"This feature definitely worked in X1 Expanded - even my failing memory recalls this. " So how did you get it to work? I swear it has worked a couple times for me, but not mostly.

"Yes, it works in X2a. You just need to set the Event Draw Duration to Last Touched." Where is that option? This may be the switch I was asking about.

Hi Nick... it's up in the Tools module of the Control Bar. Or you can just press T on your PC keyboard to bring up the Tools HUD. In the HUD, use the control on the bottom right to set the option.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. In X1e it's Last Selected, but yeah the result is the same. Last touched is nicer though, as it easy to NOT select the note if you click the wrong portion. Funny. I actually have NEVER seen that before, but in just one session, X1e was doing exactly what I am asking about and I could not work out why.

Those are the joys of working with computer software... we get to experience the idiosyncrasies once in a while.

Perhaps for some but for me and others X2 is an unstable release that is very prone to crashing.

Hey Nick... I agree. Back in college we were still using reel-to-reel for most of our projects and only did a little bit of work with computers and MIDI. Back then I had an Atari ST with a bunch of MIDI modules in my home studio, which was great.

But today, the things we can do with all the hardware and software at our disposal, are just amazing.
