PRV Snap question - Bug or I'm doing something wrong?

Scenario - I want to edit some drum notes in the PRV.  I open up the PRV, zoom in, and the smart grid goes to 1/1.  But the track snap on the right, which I always set to 16th, goes to whole notes.  I'm zoomed in pretty close.  I now have to change the track snap to 16th.  What am I doing wrong?

If both the Smart Grid and the PRV Snap buttons are blue, it means they're connected to each other: meaning that if the Smart Grid shows 1/1, then the PRV Snap will show Whole note snap. I always change things manually because it rarely snaps to what I want it to... Not very "Smart", IMO!

Thanks Mike.  I remember the X2 video and Brandon saying he never has to change snap settings because it "knows" what you want.  If you look at how close I'm zoomed - only 2 measures visible, it seems the snap settings should be much finer than whole notes.

    Here's my take:

First of all, if you want the Smart grid to work in both Track View and PRV, you'll want to disable the separate PRV grid. Then make sure the last thing you did in the snap settings is enable Smart Grid and/or zoom one of the views, because if you set a specific snap value, it will temporarily override the Smart Grid until you change zoom level.

With these settings, the Smart Grid should follow the zoom level of whichever view was most recently changed. Enable Grid Resolution Follows Snap in the PRV's View menu, and you will be able to see the grid lines follow the zoom level in the Track view, even though the level might not make sense for the current zoom level in the PRV.  But if you go to the PRV and change zoom, the Smart Grid will jump to the resolution that makes sense for the zoom level in that view.

For reference, with two measures showing, I'm seeing Smart Grid resolution at 1/16.

i typically turn prv snap off, then turn off smart grid and change the snap settings manually. - be warned you have to turn snap off then back on to have the new grid resolution show up.

No problem, guitartrek. Sorry for the stating-the-obvious reply... I remember that from Brandon's video too, but it's only natural that those videos - aside from being tutorials - are also/mainly a way of promoting the software, so they would of course cut out all glitches and what-have-yous that they encountered whilst making the videos, in order to make it look as smooth and seamless as possible... They'd never show glitches or crashes on those. I find it refreshing when you do see that in other, purely tutorial, videos though, since that is a fact of - substantially more realistic and frustrating - ordinary life.
