PRV question

Guys is there was way to move a few notes together in piano roll view?  when i choose the move tool, i can move a single kick drum hit or snare etc but i cant seem to select more than one hit.  I've tried holding down shift, i've holding ctrl, i've tried right clicking, left clicking....no joy.   Is there a "move" or "copy" setting I'm missing in Sonar's settings screen?  Thanks.

Drag over all the notes to want to move to select them, just a standard windows style drag and area type thing. You should see a selection box as you drag.

Once all the notes are inside and selected, let. Go the mouse button leaving a bunch of notes a different colour than the rest.

Click/drag one of the selected notes, the rest will move with it.

Use the smart tool.  Select the notes by lassoing them.  If you re on X3 (or X2, I think), you will need to:

1)Click the Right Mouse Button (most Windows programs use the Left Mouse Button) and drag over the area of notes you want to select, then
    2)  Left click on one of the selected notes and they will all move.

If you wish to copy the notes, hold the "Ctrl" key when you do step (2.

If you want to select all instances of a note, e.g. to move all Snare Drum Hits, you can click the piano note on the left of the PRV, which will select all those notes.  You can then either copy or move them as detailed above.

Thanks Karyn...nice beagle :)  I'm basically trying to put a standard beat to use as a template "click"    I cant play to the built in click, i prefer an actual kick snare beat. But even with quantize my beats are off.  So I'm trying to use PRV to manually move the notes a bit to the left.

Shift + drag up/down or left/right to constraint movement vertically and horizontally.

If your notes are consistently off by the same amount, you may want to try selecting them all (or what is best for your situation) and use the nudge tool (no mouse required) or adjust snap settings as you move them (via mouse).

Ah, you know i've heard of "nudge" Mett but never tried it.  I'll have a mess around with it and see what gives.   What's happening is, i'm trying to do a basic beat to write songs to.  I have two beats saved as templates which work fine.    One is a kick - snare - kick -snare standard beat.
The other is a kick  -snare -kick -kick -snare beat and it works too.
But I was trying a (sorry, i know this is hard to explain in words)  kick -snare -kick -tom - kick -snare beat and when i drag out the midi clip so that it repeats that last kick doubles up with the first kick.  To give you an idea of what I'm trying to achieve, have a listen to the beat of the rolling Stones Honky Tonk woman.   Ah drummers everywhere are laughing at me saying "you idiot guitarists always joked about having three musicians in the band and a drummer".    This guitarist ain't laughing now      oh how the mighty fall.

Have you tried using the Step Sequencer? There is more to the SS than meets the eye at first glance, including the ability to randomize parameters for each loop created. It may also be easier to adjust notes, as the "first level" of interaction is simply turning the MIDI event on/off. The "finer details" is another level down into the GUI, but it seems the top level is what you are trying to achieve. You may find this simpler than trying to modify rhythm patterns in the PRV (I personally find the PRV painful for doing this).

You can access the SS in the upper right of a VST, and if you create a simple pattern you can right click that in the track view, convert to groove clip, and extend it as far as you like. There are a few nuances with working with the SS, but for quick modifications & ease of use (for your purpose), you may want to check that out.

    Hi Mett
Heading off to gym tonight but no I've never tried the ss screen now that you ask.  I'm intrigued now to try this and see if i can manage that any easier.   I did notice that some of the preset patterns in session drummer are quite good also.  I tried looking at some of those drum loops such as groove monkey but they are all over played.  You know how it is when writing a song.  You just want a good steady beat without all the fancy drum rolls etc.  That stuff you can add in later.
