.PTN file conversion?

Does Cakewalk or someone have a file conversion utility that makes .PTN files into .MID files, to use in other hosts? Thanks!

It's called SONAR or heck, maybe one of the lower end versions of SONAR (Homestudio, MC3 etc..) will do the trick.

    have a good one

I think I've heard of that product somewhere!

Just wish I could batch convert those files...

    Slightly on topic,

If you create your tune in P5 then want to switch them to sonar you can group select your entire track worth of patterns and then merge them by right clicking on one of them and selecting the right option. You can then save this pattern and transfer it into Sonar for using. I have done this before where I create the tune in P5 then transfer the tracks individually into Sonar for mastering. Nowadays I just use P5 for doing the bulk of the mastering, and just use sonar for the odd bit of audio editing and for the Sonitus Plug ins.

    Syrath.. that's backwards. LOL

Not saying your ways isn't good for you, but what I mean is that .. that is a backward process of mastering to place it in Project 5.

I use project 5 to create background tracks and get the dirt out of tracking I can't obtain using sonar, like the Groove Matrix (Awesome).

I then take those tracks and using rewire, bounce tem over to Sonar and them mix it down with the rest of my sonar compulation. I then export aand use Soundforge 8 to master with the Waves and Voxengo Mastering plugins.

Your way may work, but I find it rather hard to Mixdown in Project 5 from Sonar. I use a Bus for every plugin instead of placing it on the track, that way I can place sends on the tracks to utilize that one plugin, with less CPU strain to worry about. P5 is limited to only 4 busses so after a convoluted Reverb, Compression, an Exciter, a Limiter, your are done. You have to bog down the tracks now and I still may need as Deesser for my vocalist, long reverb for my sax and some others.

Again, not saying you can't do it your way, but wth the powerful tool like Sonar, why not use it to the fullest if you can?

    Peace

I think you may have misread me slightly. I used to create my premaster audio file in P5, then transfer to Sonar for final mastering. However I have since simplified this set up by using just Project 5 from start to finish. It saves me messing around with Sonar. There are 2 things I do not like about P5s mixing however.

You do not get the chance of pre fader or post fader aux routing and secondly there is no way to normalise a file in P5. Audacity can do the later if you really need it, but I have usually managed to get my audio to 0db with no real problem with P5.

If I remember correctly all my current soundclick tracks were all mastered in P5, with no sonar involvement (possibly excluding Return to the Orient).

Ok, So what are you doing with Sonar? Is it collecting grey hair in the deeps hole waste lands of your PC?

Sorry to take this "OT" folk, but I was just curious.

Sonar is installed but doing nothing but providing plug ins for Project 5. I already had Sonar 2 , before I purchased P5 V2. So it was a simple matter to pay a reasonable amount to Cakewalk to upgrade to Sonar 5 Studio so that I could get the Sonitus Plug ins. Previously (when I had sonar 2) I had bought the sonitus compressor, so I already knew first had that the plug ins were worth the price of the upgrade alone. I had intended using Sonar more, but found that P5 could still do everything I need. I still boot up sonar every now and then to try something or other, but I still usually do all the work in P5.
