Painfully simple newbie question

Ok, first of all apologies as this should be something I should be able to find in the Help menu, but for some reason I'm struggling to find it! Anyway here goes...

I have a couple of tracks where I would like to change the volume levels at different points of the song. With the MIDI track I have changed the velocity at the part I wish to change, which works fine, but I want the volume to tail off at the end of the track, long after the note has been started...and obviously adjusting the velocity doesn't change this! (also the curve option doesn't seem to be available for MIDI tracks!) I would also like to do it to some audio tracks, and seem to remember seeing somebody mention a method where you can place some kind of mask over the track and then adjust the volume level etc wherever it's needed. So basically, what's the best method to do this, as I don't really want to have to create another track to just change the volume levels for a few bars of a song.

Thanks :D

    Welcome Brandto

You want to use a VOLUME ENVELOPE.

In Music Creator... look at the TRACK VIEW. In the track control area, do you see the "W". (stands for WRITE) Click it and it turns RED. Start playback and click on the volume control for that track. Stop the playback.

You should now see a blue dotted line in the track. That is the volume envelope. Place your pointer ON the line and double click. You have just inserted a NODE.

With two nodes, click  and drag the line on either side of it and the volume envelope moves. Place 4 nodes on  the line and click and drag the very center line.... it goes down. Now, play back and the volume will automatically follow the line.

BTW: that is surgical volume enveloping. you can drag nodes back & forward, up and down, add & delete as needed and use them for fades.

You can also simply let the song play and move the fader in the CONSOLE VIEW. MC will remember the moves and record them with lots of nodes.

Using the velocity is a difficult way to do it and while the velocity is one way, this is the better way. Use velocity for it's intended purpose, which is not controlling the volume.
