Panasonic SV3800 DAT
PANASONIC SV 3800 I don't suppose anyone has any use for it; If so, FREE. I hate to just trash it. Pristine condition; looks nice in a rack; and who knows dats may come back some day :)

hey bapu: I guess normal people trashed theirs a few decades ago. :) I know it's been awhile but wasn't that unit about $2000 back when?

I'm guessing all yours use 110V or is the input voltage selectable?

Sell it on Ebay.... people will buy anything. It might get you more than you think it will. I sold an old crappy noisy distortion pedal..... I started the bid at $15 IIRC and expected maybe $25... it went for over $80 by the end of the auction.... amazing. Maybe it was a classic and I got took?

I just got rid of my old Sony DAT that was broken. I have dozens of tapes that I haven't listened to in years. I ripped a bunch of records, made a Christmas music tape for the holidays. IIRC, you could set it to 2 -4 - 6 hour mode. I made the Christmas tape out of all my CD's, and LP's. It was 4 hours long IIRC. If that will play my tapes, I would be interested in it. I'll take a pic of one of them when I find them, they are boxed away right now. I recently got rid of my Sony DAT, Sony high end VHS, and my ART Mach II. :( It killed me to do it, but they were all broken. I paid $700 for that Sony VHS. :( About the same for the ART Mach II. There is an electronics recycling place in Des Moines. I took a ton of stuff there. I can't believe I did this, but I gave them my previous DAW with my EMU-0404 card in it, a Bose Wave radio that got fried by lightning, and a Sony PS3 with the infamous Yellow Light Of Death AKA YLOD. The DAW worked fine, it was just slow and old. What the heck was I going to do with it ya know? I kept that stuff for, well, some of it, 25 years. I never wanted it to go in a landfill so I think the recycling place was a fitting end to it all.

I also got sucked into buying a MAC LCIII to host the Opcode Vision program...all that stuff is worthless now, if I would have invested in silver instead, I'd be very rich right now.

I am brand new to this forum, but have been using DAT Machine for a number of years, and love them. The new digital things I think do not have the feel of a DAT Machine. I have a Roland R-26 that is great for on the go situations. I use the DAT for studio recording and find it meets my needs perfectly. Well all that said I would take any all DAT machines you want to throw at me. Let me know and I will send Email and phone. I am in Southern California but am will ing to travel for DAT.

Welcome to the Coffee House, Vermin. This thread is about a year old. It's unlikely that the 3800's are still available, but maybe someone has other units that you might be able to buy/obtain.

sorry, dude; The dat is in Brazil. I wouldn't bother mentioning the rest but it might be a lesson for someone shipping packages there. I was about to send the recorder to Bub but at the last minute he changed his mind. So, I Fed Ex'd the dat to a forum member in Sao Paulo. I paid $80 for 3 day air. I knew Brazil had very high import taxes (almost 100% of the declared value) and I decided to pre-pay the tax also. IMO, the dat wasn't worth much, if anything but customs might feel different so I declared a value of $50 and added that amount to the Fed Ex payment. A week after shipping, a Brazillian official e-mails saying my declared value was erroneous and they determined the value to be $1500; and the import tax due was $1400. (They opened up the package and thought at first it was a brand new machine) I tried to convince customs the machine wasn't even worth the shipping charges I paid but to no avail. After about ten e-mails I gave up. The last I heard the tax was reduced to $800. I have a feeling my like-new, pristine Dat is on a dusty shelf in some over-crowded rusty, dilapidated warehouse. It's all Bub's fault. :)
