Panic Room

I am going down to Tavistock (Devon, UK) tomorrow to see Panic Room.

The band is fronted by Anne-Marie Helder who was vocalist with an previous incarnation of Karnataka and also played flute and keyboards with Mostly Autumn for a while.   She also did vocals on John Wetton's "Icon".

Also of note us the supurb Luna Rosso is a side project, a collaberation between Helder and the bands keyboard player Jonathan Edwards, the Album "Secrets and Lies" is one my favourite albums of the past couple of years.

Thanks for posting this Glyn, I'm always looking to hear good music. I'll do a little search on U-tube on them.

I have to admit that when I saw the title Panic Room, I thought you were talking about the movie (which I thought was quite good). :)

Since I have four albums each from Panic Room and Karnataka (and really like Mostly Autumn), I'm sure I would love this concert!

Ironically, although I have TONS of music with John Wetton in it (King Crimson, UK, Asia, Uriah Heap, Wishbone Ash, Family, etc.), I don't have any of his solo work.  I'd never heard of Luna Rosso either so I guess I'll have to look into both.

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Yep - you have to google Panic Room Band or you are swamped with other hits.

I saw Mostly Autumn at the same venue back in the summer. They are an outstanding band live, of course having a small but dedicated following, rather than a mass following means small venues but an enthusiastic audience so a great atmosphere.

I think the last album “Dressed in Voices” is their finest to date.

Dern good concert, They have gigs in Cambridge (Tonight), Birmingham on the 16, Carsile on the 17 and Edinburgh 18 and are worth seeing if you get chance.

The first 45min set was "semi-acoustic" reworkings and some new songs, all from the new album Essence and the second 105 minutes were an electric set. There are some great musicians. Anne-Marie Helder has a very versatile voice, excelent in both quiet acoustic songs, heavy rockier numbers and some middle east tinged stuff.

David Foster on lead guitar was a treat, he also plays with the Steve Rothery band. Gavin Griffiths' drumms and percussion was excelent, some times playing some electronic pads by hand for a wide varity of acoustic sounding percussion.

Jonathan Edwards was an unasuming presence hidden behind his keyboards at the back, but very competent!

Bass player Hatim Halimi deserves a special mention, a huge stage prescence dispite his tiny size, and boy can he play. He was all over the stage and his fingers all other the fretboard with some imaginative and exciting bass lines.

One further aside. I am now playing the new album Essence which i bought from the merchandise stand. The website still says pre-order and I was told by the merchandise guy it was the first concert where it was available.

There are some new song and some new more acoustic arrangements of earlier songs. The new song "Rai & Tears & Burgundy" which stood out at the concert is just beautiful. The album has a very intimate feel and the re-worked songs are in no way superfluous. It could become one of my favourites.
