Part one of my album project: extreme metal as ever...

https://soundcloud.com/memorare/intro-river-of-blood

going to do an album based on the plagues of Egypt. this is part one. i have tried so hard on this to mix it and get a balance...James, Danni and all you others will tell me how well i have fared. Any dissonance is intentional. Thanks for the listen/comments!

Muahahaha... nice. I like the vocals. They work well with the overall song. I agree with james though, there is something off with the mix. It sounds like encoding problems. Did you upload a wave or an MP3?

Hi Mark, nice to hear a new track from you.

Love the intro and the buildup to the guitars. I've heard you sing on tracks like this before so was expecting them vocals.

The mix sounded a little muffled on speakers, so I popped the headphones on and it sounded much better. Did you mix on headphones by any chance?

    The music is superb.

    Mark.

It was my favorite from you, but I must reluctantly agree with Mr. Tanton. But at the same time, I know this is your style, so I try to keep an open mind.

    Hey Mark

I particularly like the build-up in this, it fits the 'Egyptian' theme to a tee.

And some intense and awesome guitar riffage as always mucker.

I note this is the first of a series of tunes for an album, and LOL I sense you're in the mood for a Dream of Gerontius style assault! I'm certainly looking forward to the trip

Symphonic bass drums ... then a strong metal hook at 1:10 ... then the "River of Blood" cry and then all your astonishing signature demon antics.

At precisely 3:00 a metal 'ballad' (a fav section) invites some necessary melancholy before the final madness-drones neatly 'wrap things up'.

Certainly gothic cries are at their highest level ... and the devils have their place in the mix ... where the world cries in rebellious agitation.

I'm astonished by the excellent build ups throughout ... the hyper-emotive cries, and the onion-peeling majesty of this piece.

i have now ordered some open-back phones to see if that works better with mixing (http://www.studiospares.com/headphones-studio/studiospares-m2000-headphones/invt/448780 if anyone is interested).

thanks to you all for commenting,
Robbie - i know, vocals...i do intend to have some melodic vocals at various points in this project though...

    Bobby - great!

yes Steve i already have the next one half-worked out! getting a little more time and inspiration in the next few weeks; already have the titles and lyrics for all ten tunes, and certainly track ten will feature a version of the intro in it...

Philip, thank you as ever, and 'onion-peeling majesty' is one of the best phrases ever!

    Hey man!

It was cool to hear something new from you again. The Music is awesome and I love Your vocals in this - except from the 4 min mark, get's a little messy for my taste

The mix sounds pretty good overall but there are some horns or something that comes in after the guitars that are seriously loud! Also, the orchestra in the intro is very cool but the samples sounds a little cheap-ish maybe? What did you use?

But the song is great, the guitars sounds nice and fat, the arrangement is spot on for it's genre - just a bit more detail to the orchestra programming and this is definitely a winner!

Very nice.  I like all the different parts - intellectual metal?  I'm not familiar enough w/ the genre to comment on how it compares, but better than most of what I've heard.  Of course, most of my experience w/ metal came from driving a cab in NYC many many years ago.  After 2 I'd pick up the drunks and switch between the college metal station and the holy-roller one, depending upon the fare.  Try to scare a good tip out of them.  The vocals are fine - I don't know what people are expecting.  Some fine machine-gun snare drumming early.  And the guitars - make me smile.

Good to hear something from you again, man.
