Pearl the Surfer Girl (CHANGES made thanks to ideas from Wayfarer, Emeraldsoul & Wookiee)

Yes - I know - another sand, surf and sun song.  This one is a wee bit different.  It has been tailored with a mystery just for the Halloween season.

Anyway, I hope it gives you a bit of a giggle.  Comments, suggestions feedback and crit's, as always, will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

That's the best tune I've ever heard from you Fred. Very cool!

I think the vocal could come up some and have some treble added to it. The bass and vocal were stepping on each other frequency wise. One or both could use some EQ'ing in my opinion. At least that's how it sounded to me old ears.

This is a neat idea for a tune!

Intro toms, the very first three seconds, were clipping my speakers a little.

I agree with Wayfarer, vocals up, drums (cymbals particularly) a bit down. You might "brighten" or "sweeten" those vocals a bit, they are very midrangey. Some lifting eq up around 1-2khz ??

sweet. Guitars are very nice indeed.

Like Bill and Tom the vocals sound a little all in the distance and the ride is drowning much, just a few tweaks to the mix Freddy and I am sure you will have another cool song.

Thank you Bill, Tom, and John.  I am replying to all as y'all had similar suggestions.

First thanks for listening and commenting.  Actually I wasn't going to post this song.  No matter what I was doing I just couldn't get the sound right.  However, I started to think logically and what better place, than this forum, to get good advice on how to improve your song.  So, I did and I got great advice.  I have backed off the drums, especially in the intro.  I also jiggered around with the EQing (like I knew what I was doing).  In particular,  I was going for better separation, clarifying the vocals (also up'ed the vox volume), and toning down the cymbals.

Hopefully, it sounds a bit better with these efforts.  Thanks again for the suggestions!

Yeah, I like this version better. Seemed to be some bits out of sync or something, maybe because of a delay fx?
Anyway, a fun song as usual.

Hi Bjorn.  The Tampa Bay area got lucky again.  Some pretty gusty winds and lots of rain bands here but my heart goes out to the folks in the panhandle.  Thanks for listening and the comments.  I intended to make this song a bit loose but maybe I was a tad too loose.  Thanks again!  BTW you and Lynn put out an excellent song on your recent post.

Thanks Daryl.  I really appreciate your comments and thanks for taking the time to listen.

Hey Bill.  I am a bit worried about saying this (Fate may be listening) but the Tampa Bay area has been lucky so far.  The Gulf coastal beaches are rather low energy systems. About the only time wave are high enough for surfing is during storm time but hurricane Michael was ridiculous.  The call "Surf's Up" means something different in FL.  I always appreciate your comments. This song is not quite where I want it yet but hopefully is better than it was.  Thanks again.

Hello Jesse.  Gee, I was hoping that the echo would give it kind of a spooky feel. Guess it didn't work -- huh?  Thanks for listening and commenting.

Your voice reminds me of Jim Morrison for some reason.  So this sounds like the Doors meet the Ventures.  Neat story too!

Hi Mark.  Thanks for the kind words and encouragement buddy.  Cheque is in the mail (intended humour).

Hey John.  Jim Morrison -- I'll take that, thanks. Thanks, also, for taking the time to listen and comment.  This one was a kind of a fun song to do.  That is important to me as I do this stuff to have a good time and doggone, I have found that it is also therapeutic.  It sure will get me out of a bad mood.

Hello Wookiee.  Thank you!  I very much appreciate the suggestions that you provided previously.

The "mystery girl" theme and the chord changes kind of make this song work for the Halloween season, too. Nice work!

Hi Larry.  Thanks for the kind comments.  The Halloween season does seem the time for a mystery - doesn't it?  I really liked the recent song that you posted.  Keep them coming.

I liked the tune - but the lead vocals seemed to be a bit buried in the mix.  Really cool surfer rock guitar playing.
