Peavey STUDIOMIX

Hi all - okay so I may not have totally needed it, but the price was right and I have always wanted to check one of these out.  So, I grabbed a StudioMix and thought it might be fun to see if I could get it to interact with my VS700 system.  Does anyone know, could I use this as fader 9-16 and use the VS700 for faders 1-8?  Any other uses?  Has anyone ever gotten these to work on a Mac OS system?

(oh and yeah I know it's a Peavey piece of hardware but it's got Cakewalk emblazoned on the front.  That counts as CakeWalk Hardware right?)

Thanks for any info and thoughts.

I have a StudioMix that I picked up years ago on Ebay and used for quite a while until I upgraded to a VS700 (and then to a Mackie MCU after I sold my VS700). I still have the StudioMix sitting around, and I have tried on a few occasions to add it alongside my MCU as a second controller for my synths, but this tends to crash Sonar. It works for a few minutes, but crashes eventually every time I've tried it.

I'm not sure if that's just me not implementing this properly, or if the StudioMix simply won't play nice with another controller, and to be honest, I've never really been THAT motivated to figure it out. So, YMMV, but it didn't work for me.

Hi Amicus - Thanks for chiming in.  Like you, this is more of an experiment to see it it will 1) work and 2) be useful if it does.  I'll get on it and report my findings.

Anyone else, feel free to report your experiments.  I just love old cheap stuff and hate throwing anything away.  :-))

You should be able to set them up as two independent controllers in ACT.

Assign one to faders 1 to 8 the other faders 9 to 16.  This I have done historically with my Keystation Pro 88 and my Peavey 1600X.  I Still use them but not like that as I have the Peavey in my sound room so I can stop and start SONAR remotely for recording acoustic instruments.

I have 2 StudioMix in my studio. And I still use them everyday with Sonar X3, Win7 x64.
I'm not sure how it work in MacOS, but in my Win7 they amazingly work however I want them to work. StudioMix works good either alone or alongside with other controller (like Frontier Tranzport) with their stock driver (Not using ACT). They will have their own menu to control, and each compliment the other. So yes, I believe it should work as you mentioned.

I wish I could get mine to do that. Whenever I try to run it alongside my Mackie, it causes Sonar to crash. And I mean, every time. I must reinvestigate, I suppose...
