Pentagon won't save my patches.

Hey all,

This problem has been very frustrating and I've searched the forum for possible related topics and didn't come across much. Here's the deal. I pick a preset that I like in Pentagon, like "ana bass 01 (vel) BT". Then I tweak anything on it, like volume, some oscillator settings, filter cutoffs, etc. I proceed to save the tweaked preset as a differently named patch, something like "my-ana-tweaked-bass". Then I even save the whole session, not just the plugin patch. I close Sonar and restart it, opening my file. I go to the Pentagon synth, select 'my-ana-tweaked-bass' and it just loads the default "ana bass 01 (vel) BT" without my tweaks to it!

Funny thing is, for a split second right after I load my tweaked patch, I see its correct settings appear (all the knobs snap into the positions i saved them in), and then almost instantly they snap to the default positions of the original preset that my patch was based off. Anyone have any ideas on why this problem is happening?

Thanks,
Stan.

When you tweak a patch using an external wavetable, you need to save it as Extended Program (.p1), under the options menu.

If the name of the .p1 file matches the internal name (the one you see in the Pentagon I display), then it'll be automatically reloaded on program load, together with the external wavetables.

From Michael:

I have had the same problem on Pentagon 1 trying to save my own patches.

Where on Pentagon 1 is the Options Menu or is it the options menu on Sonar.

I'm having the same problem as Stanvoid. I'm trying to save a tweak in bank F. I can save it and recall it via Program/Load Program but it doesn't show up when I right click for the full list and when I click the new preset name from the 'recents' pull down I get the original preset. I noticed "F" is full with 128 default presets so I tried to save to B or C. Still no luck. I did give is a unique name.

Did you save it as 'Extended Program (.p1)'?

Yes,

and the only way I know of to recall it is to go to PROGRAMS/LOAD PROGRAM and browse to it in the preset directory. I would like to be able to find it by right clicking the GUI (like all the others) or from the recents dropdown.

You can access edited Extended Programs via the context menu as well. Try this procedure

1- Select F1 patch (5fth down sweep BT)
2- Move 'Portamento Time' knob to the max (or any parameter)
3- From Pentagon I Options Menu select "Program... Save Extended Program (.p1)
4- Select '5fth down sweep BT.p1' to overwrite it.
5- Select A1 program (hUnison)
6- Select F1 patch (5fth down sweep BT)

Portamento Time should be maxed. In general terms, you need to ensure that the internal name (the one in the NAME window) matches the .p1 filename exactly, and Pentagon I will recall all settings and load all wavetables on context menu, song reload, etc.

4- Select '5fth down sweep BT.p1' to overwrite it.

This is the procedure I followed except for #4 where I gave it a unique name (I didn't want to overwrite).
If I saved as '5th down sweep BT-2' would that name show up?

Also, I noticed you used 'Program' and 'Patch' on steps 5 & 6. Maybe I'm doing something wrong there.
I'm assuming everything from A1 to F128 are all the same.

Please follow the procedure exactly and report back. If it works that way, I'll expand on how to give it a unique name.

I did get it to work with overwriting. What's the next step?

Cool, thanks. To get the patch saved under a different name, just do this:

1- Rename the internal program to the name of your choice (Clicking on the Patch Name in the top/right corner of Pentagon I and entering text).
2- Save it as Extended Program using the same exact name.

I'm having similar problem.  I want to save my changes in the Pentagon soft synth and every time I  reload my song the volume goes back to the original setting.  In this thread it says
"3- From Pentagon I Options Menu select "Program... Save Extended Program (.p1)"

I can't even find the options menu.  Is it on the Pentagon soft synth itself, or somewhere else?
