"People Get Ready" (guitar synth and looper)
People Get Ready I did this in Adobe Audition trying to imitate how I would have done it live with a stereo looper and my synth pickup attached to my acoustic guitar (which I used to do) right down to leaving some time to reach down to tap the button on my synth controller in order to go to the next patch and so on. Just using the pickup in the guitar as well. I wanted to do this in such a way that I could duplicate it live . . . well, if anyone ever comes out with an affordable guitar synth that doesn't glitch. If I wanted to bother to go back and figure out what I played during the solos I could probably get away with faking a video of me playing it live and no one would know. It might not sound as good this way, but I'm all about live performance, at least in feel if not in fact. My solos are mostly improvised, but with many takes. I'm no Kenny after all. Bill

This is a real good treatment of the original song. I really like the intro to this song and the fact that you carried it through for so long. The staggered intro of each of the sounds (instruments) throughout was well done. I was a bit startled by the cut-off of the intro and the introduction of the guitar but it works. Nice one Bill!

Thanks Fred. Your comments are always helpful and much appreciated. I should have pointed out for the young folks that this is not something I wrote. It's an old Curtis Mayfield song. Most people are probably more familiar with the Jeff Beck - Rod Stewart version though. Jeff Beck -Rod Stewart version I didn't try to sound like either. I just kind of did my own thing with it. Bill

Bill You might not have written the song, but I'm assuming all the embellishments in the song are yours? Regardless, I really liked this one. I wasn't quite as taken with the intro as I was with the guitar part. Maybe just some strings in the background is all you'd need.

I really like this. Very uplifting. Nice choice of tune. The intro especially makes sense in a live looping context. The recording is pristine. Altogether very nice. Thanks for sharing!

That was cool - I enjoyed that. The acoustic guitar sounds excellent - very nice playing there.

Lovely acoustic rendition of a great tune. Didn't like that intro at all, sorry.

That first couple of minutes was just amazing! That's some very creative stuff and wonderfully played. Normally synths make me want to upchuck, and I was afraid this was going to be some silly electronica junk in search of a melody, but that was like a looped symphony. Loved that guitar bit at the end too. What was that final chord sequence?

For for not hating on me everyone. Mississippi, I don't know the names of half the chords I play, so I had to use an online source called "Cord Namer" that lets you fill in tablature notes and then will tell you what the name of the chord is. However, I didn't think that explained the little added notes AROUND the chords, so I made a tab up in my graphics program. I never did this before, so I hope I did it right. (And I never want to do it again. That was a lot of work!) Bill

Bill, that was truly a unique take on what I consider to be one of the all time classics. My only suggestion would be to turn down the whistlelike sound a db or so at the 4:30 mark. Otherwise, kudos!

I think you're right Lynn. That is a bit loud there. I think I'm gonna lay this tune to rest though. Played it for one of my best friends last night and she didn't care for the intro anymore than a lot of people here did. Oh well, I've never been very good at judging what it is other people will like in my own songs and recordings. I'm interested in in selling this Roland GR-20 synth w/ GK3 pickup. I also have the GK3 and synth controller mounted on an SX Les Paul type guitar that I plan to sell too. I never use this stuff so I might as well sell it. If anybody's interested, drop me a PM and make me an offer. Bill

Intro? I liked it. I thought the crossfade between intro and acoustic guitar could have been longer and less abrupt. Why not take 8 bars or 16 and fade it gradually whilst the acoustic jam comes in the door? Just a thought. Kudos for how each track has its own pristine space. And, for the guitar genius. thanks for that one - it was the proverbial breath of fresh air. -Tom

Enjoyable instrumental rendition to a classic tune. The sax and flute you managed to get to sound quite convincing (unless they are real). Interesting intro. From electronic to acoustic. Nice transition. John B.
