Percussion Loops
I posted about this once before, but it was a while ago. Figured I'd bring it up again since I never quite found what I was looking for... Anyone know of a good package of either loops or just sounds in general, that you can use to add that kind of layer of twinkly sparkly percussion that usually comes in during the chorus of pop/dance songs? Seems like it would be a popular thing.

FXpansion BFD Percsussion add-on is superb for all non-classical percussion. It's on sale for 1/2 price ($75) right now but you'll need BFD2 or (maybe) ECO.

These IMO are the best in the industry. I have Battery 3 also and the quality of the BFD is a step above.

Got Kontakt? There's a megazillion percussion loops out there for Kontakt. Asian, African, Middle Eastern, Indian, you name it. Zero-G's got a a bunch of 'em, many under $30 with frequent 40-50% off sales. Get on their mailing list. A really nice collection (but at $129 also a little pricier than most) is called Flying Hand Percussion.

Since you already own BFD2 it would make sense to have a look at their current half price sale on all expansion kits. The Percussion Kit is $75 right now. Looking at the "Garritan World Sounds" though you do get an awful lot for $149. I guess the garritan stuff would be used in Dimension Pro. Steve

yea someone above recommended the percussion kit for bfd2 and since it was on sale i grabbed it. haven't gotten to play with it a lot yet but so far it's really cool and sounds great. however realistic percussion might not be what i was actually looking for. if you listen to a lot of modern pop music... for lack of a better description it's like "shimmering sparkles" that come in during the choruses. that description sounds awful haha. but listen to stuff like katy perry, lady gaga, kesha, one direction, rhianna. they all have it. it's not really real percussion, but that's the only way i'd know to describe the sound since it mixed in with the drum beat and picks everything up and makes it seem faster during the chorus.

AAS' Chromaphone is perfect for that. On sale now. Percussion, textures, bells, gongs, blocks, synths, pads. Swooshes, swishes, shimmers, tinkles, bubbles, wobbles, warbles.... (LOL - listen to some demos, etc.) The "Microsound Textures" soundset is brand new - $19 introductory sale now - and has a number of this type of preset - and it is easy to build on something, or build your own.

Something to keep in mind also is that each soundset comes with a player - so if you aren't a tweaker and just want to play the presets - just get the soundset and see what it does. If you decide you want more customization/flexibility - you can buy the full version of Chromaphone then - (just don't miss the sale!)

Looks like it's for registered customers of AAS: "Exclusive to AAS registered users, the Microsound Textures sound bank for Chromaphone and AAS Player is available now at the introductory price of only $19 – a $20 discount – until August 25th, 2013. To buy, get more information, and listen to a preview of Microsound Textures, visit the address below."Also - for registered users, all of their instruments (including Chromaphone) are $89 - "We are extending our 15th Anniversary Sale until August 25th, 2013! As an AAS registered user get any of our Professional Series instruments for only $89 each! Shop now at the address below." This is pretty typical of AAS - I got Chromaphone itself at a pretty good introductory price when it first came out, and often pick up new sound sets as they are introduced at a discount as well. They make doing business with them very easy.

David, one free idea is the Acid monthly loop package. I see you're into Acid (the software). I've been collecting them for like 10 years and often just peruse them when stuck for an idea. A lot of them are way off base, but in the interest of "something different", they can add an edge (chopped and spliced and mutilated as needed). http://www.acidplanet.com/downloads/8packs/

thanks timidi, i don't actually use acid though. i just uploaded some music on there a while back cause some guy told my girlfriend to tell me to and somehow ended up winning best song of the year. still no idea how that happened, but I took it and ran with it :-) haha. just bought chromeaphone. not gonna have a lot of time to play with it tonight, but so far just playing with some presets it's really really cool! just registered so we'll see if maybe i get that discount code for the expansion... if not i'll end up getting it soon

I would contact AAS support using the link on their website and provide your sn for chromaphone and ask them to hook you up with microsound textures for $19. I'd bet they'll take care of it in less than a day.

polarbear ... if you listen to a lot of modern pop music... for lack of a better description it's like "shimmering sparkles" that come in during the choruses. that description sounds awful haha. but listen to stuff like katy perry, lady gaga, kesha, one direction, rhianna. they all have it. it's not really real percussion, but that's the only way i'd know to describe the sound since it mixed in with the drum beat and picks everything up and makes it seem faster during the chorus.
It seems that from a dance/pop music area, nobody has directly addressed your question, so I'd thought I take a shot. What you area really looking for is called FX (effects), and specifically called transition effects, especially a set of effects called risers. They are called that because they typically rise in pitch and tempo, and are used as transition sounds, to go from one section of a song to another. There are may companies that produce FX loop packs, some of the more well-known are: LoopmastersVengeance SoundSample Magic Also, it's not to difficult to create your own from scratch. If you have a sampler like Kontakt, then it's easy cut up and paste samples in small parts, then play them back with rising pitch, tempo, filter cutoff, delays, etc. Here's an example that's done with Ableton Live that you could also do in Sonar with a decent sampler as well: Breakdown/buildup examples Hope this helps!

thanks for the input forkol. you know what though it's not the rises i'm looking for, it's actually during the chorus. you know what's funny though. and while i'm loving chromaphone for all that it CAN do, i just went back and instead of going from memory, i went and listened to a few pop songs to hear exactly what i'm talking about, and it's almost always just hi-hats and/or shakers haha. for example: Kesha - Tik Tok - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP6XpLQM2Cs (starting at 0:58) Katy Perry - California Girls - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F57P9C4SAW4 (starting at 2:10) stuff like that. i bet I'll find what i'm looking for in that BFD Percussion Expansion pack once I really get to dig into it.
