Periodic stutters / drop out when using a RAID volume
Hey guys!
It's been a while. I hope you're all doing well and Merry Christmas!
I'm having an odd issue. I recently built a RAID volume and moved my projects on to it. Specifically I'm using:
LSI megaraid pci-e card with BBU and write caching enabled.
4 disk RAID 10 (3 TB per disk 2 stripes, mirrored - 5.7 TB usable)
I have this weird issue where occasionally the audio will all stop. I don't get a hard stop with drop out icon. It continues to pick up where it left off when it comes back. It'll stop for about 1 second. This happens during record and playback. Sometimes it happens every time I press play, other times it doesn't. But it's always after about 2-3 seconds of starting to play or record and then it never happens again. Meaning that it won't happen a minute into playing. It only happens in the first 5 seconds if it's going to happen at all.
At first I thought this was due to upgrading to x2A, but I upgraded and switched my disk at the same time.
I moved my project file off of the RAID volume and onto my main OS disk and it never happened again. ODD!!!
So I can only assume it has something to due with the initial right or read to the RAID volume. This is a professional server grade RAID setup, but we all know that DAWs can be finicky about things.
Does anyone know if maybe there are some settings that need to be adjusted to make this work better? Any help would be much appreciated. I haven't tried disabling write caching yet. I wouldn't think that'd make it better, since it will right up to 512 MB to the memory on the LSI card. But I will try that to see if it gets better.
Thanks for the help guys! I'm stoked about Sonar X2A. It didn't fix all of my annoyances with the interface, but it fixed a lot of them.
Cheers!
