My wife and grand daughter. I wondered when I was a younger man what was and how one defines love. I grew to learn in my teens what it meant to me-it was that the life of some people were worth more to me than my own.

Tough question Alex. In a perfect world, I can't do without anyone who is in my life (either in person or online). But past experience has shown me that ultimately, no matter how painful, I can get by without those that are no longer around. The depth to which I can't do without someone really rests in my dependence and attitude toward that specific individual. That said I miss nearly everyone who was once close to me but is no longer (for whatever reason) but others have given me such joy that I choose not to dwell on those who have moved on. Hope that helps.

I've got a wife i can't do without. 2 friends closer than family too, i couldn't do without them either. The others are nice, but not quite "do without-worthy."

wooo hooo!!!! honorable mention from Karyn!!!! I think my real answer would violate the TOS. I love my family!!! My wife is my best friend, I love my kids and would do anything for them. And I would be devastated without them in my life. But I know that if something happens to them that I would be able to go on. it might take a while for me to get over it, but I know that I would be able to survive without them. So, technically there's not anyone on this earth that I can't do without. But there are many people I do not want to do without (including Karyn!!! ) There are many people in my life I would have a real hard time doing without. but I would survive without them if I had to.

Bapu.... the scenery behind the girls is the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska..... the first two were somewhere in the Alaska inside passage and glacier bay..... Man I don't even want to think about how much it cost for that backdrop scenery...... with everything we did included... the 10+ day adventure in stimulating the economy of Vancouver, and Alaska..... somewhere north of $12k.. and less than $20k. Airfare for 4 adults, a balcony cabin, shore excursions, whale watching, nothing was cheap, not even the T-shirts. Oh...almost forgot the freaking "gratuity" for the ship's staff, you can put it on your credit card for convenience. I didn't set down and get the exact figure, it was too depressing. I don't even like to thing about how much gear that would have bought. But I digress.... it was a great trip. We had fun.

hmm, I would probably turn to cocaine and hookers until I died of one or the other (or is that too real?) we each have our own demons and temptations. I'm not sure "how" I would cope with a loss that great, and only the real situation would be evidence of what the outcome would provide. I might do the same thing, but at this point in time I don't think that would be the case. but I know that nothing on this earth is certain and I know I could do the same thing if I made that choice on how to cope with it. I am certain that it would be a very depressing and difficult time to have had such a tremendous loss in my life.

Well thought out, Reece and so true. We can learn to do without, but we never really live without. They will always be a part of us .... It's hard to decide where to draw a line in that each person in themselves are (or could be) just as important to us as anyone who already is. I'd like to try to acknowledge all people for who they are and how each one is important to me. I, in return, would really like to be able to return the favor. ...
