Piano Roll Edits

When I open a midi clip from the track view it seems by default all the notes are selected.  So being in my creative flow and plowing forward I make an edit to the length of a note and all of a sudden all the notes change.  Sigh!!  I then issue the necessary curse words and fix the problem.  (This happens at least once each session.)

So I fix the mistake, click off and then click on the note Iam looking to edit and repeat the edit.

Does anyone know of a way around this.  I would prefer no notes are selected by default.  I find this really irritating.  That is my workflow anyway.

Thanks,
John

As a short term solution you could do what I have done and set  C (for "clear") to Edit|select|none and learn to bang it instinctively each time you enter PRV.

The link to the other big thread on this topic was posted - I just wanted to add, which I've done several times on the other thread, and on other threads, something about the PRV:

--If you do a lot of MIDI work, the PRV is one of the most important parts of Sonar.  You need it to be quickly accessible.  My primary screenset is the PRV with one track of the TV visible above it.  I can easily scroll up and down through tracks, make changes I want in the TV version of the data without doing a any jumping back and forth between work areas.  My primary work is there in the PRV - and so I make good use of the PRV's track selection menu.  I have literally never opened the PRV by double clicking a track - The PRV is already open, I simply select what I want to work on from right there in my MIDI editor.  No notes are pre-selected.

All of that seems to be the opposite of the way a lot of people are working, but since there complaints about working in a way that makes PRV secondary to the TV, I highly recommend you at least test out what I'm talking about.  Give more focus to the PRV, and, based on my own experience, I think you will likely be happier with your MIDI work flow.

And , the method I've become accustomed to, is having full screen PRV and TV open at all times, but instantly switching between them by utilizing the "control/tab" key binding. And when in PRV , i hit "T" to open the MIDI track list. I'm sure there are several different ways to do this. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day wknd.
