Piano Roll Snap Problems

I'm trying to solve a problem with putting notes into the piano roll view.
 
Whenever I try to put a note into the piano roll, it will snap the start of the new note to the start/end of other midi notes. So, if I'm trying to put in a midi note at the start of Bar 2, and I have a midi note ending just before bar 2, the new note will automatically start at the end of the previous note, NOT at the start of bar 2. It seems I'm unable to snap to any normal note value, only to the end of other midi notes. Even if I go way down the timeline and try to make a note there, it still snaps to the end of the other midi notes.
 
I've tried messing around with the preferences but nothing seems to be working, aside from turning off all the landmarks in the midi note preferences, in which case the cursor won't snap to any values in the piano roll which is equally useless.
 
Hopefully someone else has encountered this before or has some ideas about how to fix it, I really like SONAR so far and it would be really nice if I could figure this out : )
