Piano roll keys not responding to my midi keyboard.

Midi keyboard works in all other respects and plays virtual instruments well, but the piano roll keys dont visually respond to the midi keyboard key presses.   Hoping for a fix...

The virtual keyboards on my many virtual instruments do in fact respond to the "real" midi keyboard presses.  Only the Sonar PRV does not.

Using Sonar X1 Producer Extended.   Win 7/64

Twanger, you're using Windows or Mac Version of Sonar?

So if Sonar were a player piano the keys would have to move in order to make any sound, but Sonar is a computer program. Does the input from your keyboard get recorded in Sonar? If not, that is the problem, not the lack of animation.

The PRV keyboard only animates during recording.

If by "animates" you mean the keys turning grey, that happens with the transport stopped.  Playing the real keyboard should be reflected in the PRV keyboard.

twanger, you're saying that when you play your real keyboard you hear the notes, but see nothing happing to the PRV keyboard ?  And if you click on the notes in the prv, do you hear anything ?

Could the prv be open on the wrong clip/track ?

Yes, I hear the notes, but nothing happens on the PRV keyboard.  PRV definitely open on the correct track.  Also, I tried multiple instruments, which all completely work in every aspect, including animation of the keyboards in each virtual instrument's own window.  Only PRV is not animated.

As explained in this video (at 24:25), the feature was added in X2, so it's not available in X1:

    SONAR X2 - Transitioning From SONAR X1
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw5z9BKWD-I

Even in X2 or later versions (including the current version), the feature is only available in the Notes pane.
If you want it in the Drum pane as well, you can vote here:

    You sure about this Dave?

My PRV has always reflected note presses from my connected keyboard.

    To the OP, make sure:

    1. The correct Octave is visible in the PRV
    2. Your keyboard is transmitting on the correct Midi channel
    3. You are actually viewing the correct track in the PRV

All of these have tripped me up in the past.

    No,  I'm not.

I just checked and confirmed I was mistaken. I guess what I was remembering is that it only detects live input, and not playback.

    Sorry to confuse the issue.
