Piano roll view colours
Was just wondering if it's possible to change the background of the prv so that it easier to see where bars start and finish? For example, the step sequencer is easy to put a simple 1 bar drum loop in because 4 notes are light grey and then the next 4 are dark grey and so on. If your putting in lots of 16th notes manually in prv it is almost impossible to see what your doing because there is no difference in the background. Bloody hard to navigate. Thanks

Hit the P key and scroll down to COLORS and select PIANO ROLL VIEW category and change colors. Steve

Hi Steve, Wouldn't that just change the entire background to one block colour? I want to change 1 bar to one colour, the next bar to another colour and then repeat this for the duration. Either that or change the vertical lines for the bar to a different or darker colour.

This has been well documented since X1's release, almost 18 months ago. Yes it's a potential pain, for some, but why whine about it now? What's your other disappointment(s)?

I'm hardly whining about it, I'm just disappointed. I have been using cakewalk products for over 12 years. I picked Pro Audio after trying Cubase and Logic because it just seemed to flow better. Everything was where it should be and I hardly ever had to consult the manual to achieve a result with a project. The name of the product was a reflection on the workflow. Now, after a 4 year break from music I have just bought X1, which in a lot of ways is obviously far superior to the last version I had (Sonar 6), but the original intuitive workflow seems to be missing. I've had several problems with midi looping, (with a number of people on here aiding me in finding a solution), problems with automation blah blah blah. To be honest it really is of no importance as to what my other problems are with the software. I just feel the software has lost it's magic that's all. Hence the disappointment.

Sorry Daniel, perhaps whine was the wrong word to use. No disrespect intended. X1 is a completely different animal to all previous versions and in many respects, it's like having to learn a bran new DAW from scratch. But the learning curve isn't that steep - a large percentage of the functionality under 8.5 & prior is still there, it's just not in the same place as it used to be! Once you've "got" X1, you will come to appreciate it's finer points and I for one, would not like having to go back to 8.5

Thanks Garry and Soens, I will look into that more when I get home tonight. Hopefully I will find a solution! Jonesey, don't worry about it. I realise that X1 is completely different, I do need to try and get my head around it more it's just taking longer than I anticipated! And yes, I agree on 8.5, I'm glad I missed that little chesnut out... I'm just glad this forum is here in case any problems are encountered and I need help.

Daniel1 Hi Steve, Wouldn't that just change the entire background to one block colour? I want to change 1 bar to one colour, the next bar to another colour and then repeat this for the duration. Either that or change the vertical lines for the bar to a different or darker colour. Background color alternates vertically between light and dark only, not horizontally. Vertical bars can be changed, 1st bar is one color while following bars are another. Bar to bar cannot alternate colors like the Step Seq. You just have to play with the colors a bit to see what it will do. The PRV has remained pretty much the same for years. Just be glad colors can still be changed. Steve

Thanks Steve, I had a play about with it last night and I've managed to change the vertical lines to another colour so it now looks a whole lot easier to navigate. cheers
