Picture Cache
A recent thread reminded me of the need to clear the Picture Cache on a routine basis. So, today I attempted to delete my picture cache folder's contents. It has been many months since I've done this. Now, I have many files to delete. I selected all and tried to delete, but, it would not delete them. So, I tried just a few at a time and it worked for a while. Then, I keep getting a windows alert telling me there is not enough Free Memory to do this. So, I try and empty the recycle bin and it refuses to empty. If I restart Windows I can delete a few more before it happens all over again. At this rate it will take days to delete them all. Any ideas as what the issue is? My specs are: Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz 3 Gigs of ram, FF 400 interface, running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. Thanks! Jay

Try and delete them via DOS Seriously! Type 'cmd' in the run box - you should know the rest

Thanks Bristol_Jonesey, but, not being very proficient with computers, can you please give me more details? Thanks so much for the quick response!

You need to know where your Picture Cache is located Mine is in C:\Cakewalk Projects\Picture Cache From your Start menu select Run type cmd in the box to get to a DOS shell type cd c:\"Cakewalk Projects"\Picture Cache" (or wherever your cache is located) You should now be in the cache folder Type del *.* This should do it Type exit to escape

I've just been reminding myself how to do this via the shell cmd... just one important thing to remember, now that we are allowed to put a space in our folder names (back in MSDOS 5 you were only allowed eight characters, no spaces or special characters). As Jonesey has demonstrated, you need to place any folder name that has spaces in it (or directory as they used to be called) in between quotation marks (although there is one missing in the above example at the start of Picture). An interesting side note, and something I've only just noticed about my new laptop, you can now use a forward slash, as well as a back slash, when using the CD (Current Directory) command. Old MSDOS only allowed the use of the back slash, if I remember correctly. My laptop keyboard doesn't have a back slash, presumably to save space on the keyboard...

Thanks Synkrotron. It worked even with the missing quotation mark.

I use Ccleaner & have it set up to clear the Pic cache-folder = just 3 mouse-clicks once it´s set up. Under "include" I have "C:\Cakewalk Projects\Picture Cache\*.*"

because it is a "cache" where all the waveform pictures are stored. It saves Sonar a little bit of time when displaying the waves in Track view. Otherwise, Sonar would have to redraw the waveforms every time you opened a project. That's how I understand it anyway.
