Bet it'll be great.  Just amazing how David Gilmour's wife got to break the news via Twitter.  The times have changed...wonder how much their music has.  Anyone heard anything?  Guess they might have just now taken it on.

Thanks for the News,

Richards parts are from sessions in 1994, so it will be the Floyd

I agree Wook. Let's face it, there isn't much 'they' in Pink Floyd now. Nick Mason's contribution will presumably be minimal, so it's really a David Gilmour album. Seems strange to release it as PF.

Re: Pink Floyd Lives Again! 2014/07/06 11:32:55 (permalink)
Hi,

I always thought that there was more material out there that Richard left behind, and I think that Gala (his daughter) and the family probably felt that it was all too unfinished ... or weird.

If you take a good "DAW" and separate all the parts, listen to Richard's by itself. In some cases it is down right weird and strange. In others it is spacy as heck. In others it is jazzy as heck. And it would be hard to believe that there are not 100 tapes or samples of this stuff that the family has no idea what to do with, and neither did anyone else.

That, there would be material left over from "The Division Bell" is not big deal. There always is material left over from everywhere, be it pee, poop or music or left over food! The remains always make their way somewhere, except The Beatles ones, that fans love to deny and not accept they exist or existed, specially in the CH! The bootlegs never existed! Which, of course, is the record companies fondest wish and hope EVAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

My guess is that there is more material available, some of which can be used for something and some of which might make things rather difficult. But calling it a PF album would be sad, since Nick hasn't done any serious drumming in 10 years or something, and rumor has it that he's not interested in drumming anymore! And of course, we know that Roger is not likely to show up anyway, and that would be sad, and sadder still.

I don't know. The older I get the more I wish some quiet time and less ripping off the families and the artists. I've seen the rape of the artist and the children FIRST HAND in our family, and folks in this board not giving a ****, so why Richard's family? or anyone else?

PF, and many other bands had a great run ... one of the best. The story is over! No sense milking a dead cow!  You don't sit here and get all excited about Beethoven's new music, or Mozart's ... so why anyone else? Hell ... I'm peed off at Bapu and the rest because the CHB is not working, and they have no idea how to use a woman's voice to enhance it!

If true, my guess is someone (or perhaps someone's estate) needs money.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

From Pink Floyd Facebook page:

Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album "The Endless River" in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the Summer.

"The Endless River" -- I cringed inwardly, outwardly and all-aroundwardly at that title. It screams "teen poetry." Getting very cheesy vibes off of this whole thing I'm sad to say.

old leftover tracks from 1994.....
they went back and put some more recent tracks on top of it.

they are calling it 'ambient' because there probably isn't much left to it, since it didn't make the cut in 94, or was never fully realized.

not very excited about this one.

When I saw the title the first thing that hit my mind was the song High Hopes.
"The Endless River" is mentioned in that particular song. Actually it is the last line of the last song on the album.
Maybe it has something to it that could be between Nick, David and Richard or I could be over thinking it.

"A Momentary Lapse of Reason" was so underwhelming that I did not even give "The Division Bell" a chance until many years later.  Who knows?  Youth did some good stuff with Paul McCartney, hopefully he can keep the rest of PF in line as well.

I didn't dislike Momentary - in fact there are a few songs I really enjoy on it. As I mentioned in another thread, there are many Pink Floyds for me, and I enjoy them all, each of them is one of my favorite bands - the Barrett era Floyd, the pre-DSOTM Floyd, and even the David Gilmour Floyd.

To me, Pink Floyd is always in a class of its own anyway, so it may not be a bad thing that there are different incarnations of the band.

That being said, I'm definitely not getting my hopes up for this one. But I'll be curious to give a listen
