Pink notes in Piano Roll that disappear

Has anyone encountered pink notes in the MIDI piano roll that disappear when you stop recording?

In track view nothing shows up in the MIDI track when I record, but I just noticed that the notes appear in the Piano Roll view in Pink as I play, but then disappear when I press Spacebar or the Stop button on the interface and the cursor returns to the beginning .

I have just installed one of the latest versions of Sonar with the Hauptwerk VST plug, which I have used in previous versions of Sonar without problems. Although the Audio track works and records audio, the MIDI track in record mode exhibits the behavior that I have described above.

I am waiting to hear from technical support on a larger issues, but I thought in the mean time that I would just throw this question out there in case any one has ever seen it. I have been using Sonar for years and have never had this problem.

If you have seen it, how did you fix it? I would love to start recording MIDI again.

Many thanks,
Randall

You may be recording onto a different track. Do you have a track record enabled other than the one that is open in the piano roll view? This will  cause the 'pink notes' behaviour you describe.

Thanks Bruce. I am dealing with one audio track and one MIDI track.

I created a new template with the same settings as the old one and the MIDI recorded successfully. Unfortunately, I have not learned anything from this exercise except if you have problems start from scratch with a new template.

Again, many thanks for your response.

The PRV will always show these pink notes as a 'confidence recording' indication if any track is armed to record, even if it's not the currently selected or focused track in the PRV, and the armed track is set to record some other input. This can actually give 'false confidence' as you've discovered.

If you're not ending up with MIDI recorded in your one and only armed MIDI/Instrument track when you see the confidence recording indication in the PRV, the most likely cause is that the Input port/channel selection in the armed track does not match your keyboard controller and the channel it's sending on.

The two other problems I can think of offhand that could cause MIDI not to be recorded as expected in this scenario will also knock out the confidence recording indication in the PRV, so these are probably not relevant but good to know about for future reference:

    - Autopunch is enabled on a time region other than where you're recording.
    - The Record section of Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording does not have all relevant message types (e.g. Notes) enabled for recording.

Thanks so much, Brundlefly, for you very comprehensive approach to this. I will save this response and visit it again if I have any problems like this in the future.
