Me thinks it is that thing in your hand!

A wee pint otta do it!

My guess is that you have somehow changed the sample rate of either the program or the sound card!

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Did it ever work correctly? If so, perhaps an update of some sort caused the sound card's sampling rate to change.
Music Creator's sampling rate and bit depth are shown at the bottom of the screen when it's open. Check your sound card's settings and change either MC or the sound card so that both the sampling rate and bit depth match in both.
44,100 Hz @ 16-bit is the CD standard. Many sound cards are 48,000 Hz @16-bit.

ok, so what I am testing with in this case is:
a MIDI controller driving a Roland JV1010, whose outputs feed a Presonus USB interface, whose USB cable connects to my WinXP SP-2 PC.

So, in otherwords, I'm not using Line-in on the built-In Realtek card.

ok - but what about your output?  are you trying to listen from your computer speakers?
what is your driver mode set to?  (OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVER MODE=?)
what is your sample rate in your project set to?  (look at the bottom right hand corner of your MC window).

ok lads, I apparently fixed it.
    Set Options\audio : Sampling Rate to 48000
Am I right in thinking that the Presonus MUST be set(somewhere) to 48000?

If you changed MC to 48,000 Hz and it's fixed, then yes, the Pre is sampling at 48,000 Hz.
The Presonus should have a mixer view somewhere to set the various parameters and levels.

Is there a conversion needed when exporting from the 48K to CD 44.1K?

I was thinking that I heard about some sort of problem with direct exports for a playable CD......?

you have to make sure and change your sampling rate on the export window to 44100Hz is all.  if you leave it at 48000 - which it will show up as 48000 since your project is at 48000, then it will not work in CD players.  you have to change that on export is all.
