It's about price... My current ISP charges 17,36 € / month for the SSL sertificate. That makes 208,32 € / year. If forum gains any popularity I move it to Google Cloud which does not charge extra for the https connection. On othe other hand I'd need to create a new VM which is not free either. Suggestion: create a new email account and use it when in doubt.

If you are on a dedicated server or virtual server and have root access, you just install the lets encrypt software and generate your certificate. There's no need to pay for a certificate anymore. If you need a virtual server, you can spin one up at digital ocean https://www.digitalocean.com/ for peanuts per month - think it works out cheaper than google cloud or AWS.
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.
