I tried Rounds today for the first time (it's the first Komplete 10 instrument i've tried, I am a new user) within Cakewalk. I was just playing a few notes on my midi keyboard auditioning the sounds and I am getting intermittent clicks and glitches in the audio. I am wondering what kind of performance others are getting. For example, how many Komplete 10 instruments can one load before running into issues. Thanks for any feedback.

Hello Percepto, Short answer is.. It depends.. Each library or instrument will have varying sample, effect etc to load into memory. With said, you specs look pretty strong and should be more than adequate. But let's discuss Realtor and in particular the new entrants.. Rounds, Polyplex and Kontour. They all hit resources pretty hard. When using I tend to up my audio buffer size to at least 512. I also turn off other items not needed generally. This includes wifi, nics, Bluetooth and the like. You can see how they affect Sonar in the performance indicator in the Control bar. Bring up the app and turn it own and off from the interface. The hit is immediate. In short I would begin by adjusting your audio buffers and turning off obvious services (as mentioned) to see if this improves things. They are good inclusions but "greedy"..

Komplete 9 Ultimate user here. I don't know about Rounds but I've had no performance problems with NI synths in general. I often have upwards of 3 or 4 instances of Monark (very CPU intensive) as well as many other Reaktor synths and effects, plus Massive, FM8, Kontakt etc. All runs smoothly without glitches but then again my system is a beast. The only problem I've faced is that occasionally, some NI plugins have lost their settings when a project loads. Mainly Reaktor and Solid Bus Comp.

Thanks for the helpful inputs. It must be how I'm set up then, as my system is very similar to yours (sharke) and I'm glad to make the acquaintance of another Babyface user! Is there some setting on the Babyface that I need to look at? I will try upping the buffer size as LunaTech suggested and also, (stupidly, I know!) I was online when I tried it, so I will switch everything else off and see how it goes. I'll try these things tomorrow and report back. Thanks again.

You shouldn't have to up the buffer size, unless you're at 48 samples or something like that. Generally 128 should be fine unless it's a particularly heavy project. You shouldn't be getting clicks and dropouts just from one synth. What about your sample rate? I generally stick to 48kHz. Is Rounds a Reaktor based synth? If so you can change the sample rate that Reaktor works at in the Reaktor settings. Although I have to say, I often run Reaktor synths at 96kHz without problem. Have you tried the other synths in Komplete? If they're all fine then at least you have it narrowed down to Rounds. It's worth asking on the NI forums as well although they are notoriously quiet. Honestly, with the system you have and the RME Babyface, you shouldn't be having problems like that. I'm not sure how you check latency issues on a Windows 8 system because DPC Latency Checker, which is the standard, does not report correct values on Windows 8 (this freaked me out on my new Windows 8 box when I first tested it, before I knew that DPC wasn't compatible with 8). I can generally have browsers open and be downloading stuff (I backup to a cloud constantly) with no cracks and pops in my audio. The only thing I can think of is if you have WiFi enabled - that's a notorious crackle causer.

Windows has what I call "vampire processes" that think they're important but aren't needed and interfere with audio. Wi-fi is a common example, as are extraneous drivers, but the more you can isolate and disable, the better.

All in all ultimate 10 is awesome , but as mentioned Rounds which is a great vsti But it's a cpu hog.. I would have to say with all my plugins rounds dose the most damage to my cpu.

Sorry for the delay in replying, today was the first opportunity I had to test it out. I can be more specific now at least. I unplugged my LAN cable so I am not connected, Wi-Fi is, of course, off. I have changed nothing else (no buffer size increase etc) it is still set at 128 samples in the Fireface USB settings dialogue. I am using the "WDM/KS" setting in the Driver Mode I have a simple 16 bar loop running on one track with 8th notes using (what appears to be) one of the more simple presets in Rounds (Soft Criminal) There are no other tracks or effects running. It is as simple as it gets! Rounds was set at 88.2/96 kHz and when I change it to "Host/System (44100Hz)" it definitely gets better, but still does not go away completely. Every time the Now cursor returns to the beginning of the loop I get an audible click/glitch. It also does it intermittently once or twice a cycle. It is only slight but if it is doing this with just one track I can't imagine how I am going to build a song! Any ideas? Thanks for your inputs.

Hello, My first suggestion would be to see if you can use ASIO as the driver instead of WDM/KS. I would also take the NIC card one step further by disabling it in Control Panel ( even unplugged the driver is still active). You may be able to get rid of the glitch at the start by tweaking the Loop points slightly outward as long as it does not adversely affect the timing. For laughs modify the buffer to 512. Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response but it really shouldn't be necessary to "tweak the loop points", surely that is one of the basic functions of the program? As for the ASIO driver, I keep changing back and forward between the 2 and am so confused as to which should be the best suited for the job in hand. I did revert back to ASIO but it changed nothing. I also put the loop on another track and solo'd it and it is still clicking on the loop return which would also eliminate Rounds as the cause. I get an audible click every time I hit the space bar to stop/start the playback. Thanks for the inputs.

Hello, Let me clarify what I meant by tweaking. In working with some midi files, I have found that depending on where the note starts there are times when upon hitting transport I either get a glitch or click or the first not does not sound. I addressed this by either moving the loop point to not be exactly on the start of the clip or by slightly lengthening the midi clip to I am assuming allow the first note to "hit". In regard to Rounds, did adjusting the buffer do anything?.. Disabling the nic card?

Update your audio interface drivers and firmware. Update your NI software in their control center. Use ASIO not WDM. Try turning off 64 bit precision engine in Sonar. Try turning off Intel Speedstep. Thanks.

Try turning on the metronome during playback (in the options) and then muting it so you can't hear it. This is a workaround which stops the looping click in many cases. You should definitely be using the ASIO driver which came with your Babyface. RME drivers are superb and I doubt that it is causing the clicks. But there is a known issue with softsynths, looping and clicks. For some reason the metronome hack above seems to clear it up. If not, keep the metronome one and try a few buffer settings since that seems to have an effect as well - higher buffer settings may even make the problem worse (I think I recall someone else saying that in another thread).

All drivers and firmware etc are already updated. I'm not sure what you mean by "muting the metronome". I tried switching it on and off but nothing happened. I'm using the ASIO drivers as you suggested but it is the same, maybe less "glitchy" but it's hard to tell. Is this something I'm going to have to live with?
