Platinum pre purchase questions ...

Hi there, (running in demo mode)

Pinning and 3rd party plugins:
Is there a way to be able to 'pin' 3rd party plugins, or the possibility of seeing more than only 1 at a time
that are in the same bin on the same track, possibily by changing a setting somewhere?

I'm seeing that I can 'pin' cakewalk plugins to be able to see more than one at a time,
but with 3rd party plugins, as soon as I open the second one in a bin, the first one disappears.
Is there a fix or work around for this? For me it's a downgrade in work flow to have to keep
reopening plugins when I'm used to being able to see 2, 3 or 4 at a time.

Sound:
My A and B with Sonar X3 and Platinum on the same section of one song 4 or 5 times
is making me think that Platinum is about 1dB colder in the 250hz to 315hz range or there abouts.
I'm not sure that's exactly the way to describe it.
An other way to say would be the "glue" between a flute and a basson part is not there in platinum
where it is there in X3. Something is different.

Anyone else notice anything like this or a difference is tone between the 2?

Thanks!

You can keep as many plugin windows open as you want to. The default is designed to keep your screen from getting cluttered.

Sonar itself in no way alters the frequency of digital audio it handles.

I can't say I have noticed a difference between Cakewalk and 3rd party plug-ins WRT Recycling Plug-in Windows. The documentation about the feature is here http://www.cakewalk.com/D...p=NewFeatures.099.html

Could it be 32bit plug-ins in 64bit SONAR running in BitBridge? If this is the case, the standard header is in a separate window. In this case hold the Alt key while opening the plug-in UI. The standard header usually opens behind the plug-in UI.

Make sure you have the same panning law selected for both and that levels are matched within 0.1 dB.

Assuming you've loaded an identical project into each one:

1. Type E to bypass all effects prior to exporting.
2. Export the mix from each program.
3. Normalize them to the same level.
4. Do a null test.

Platimum demo doesn't allow export :-)
But the good news is it sounds a lot closer, if not exactly the same, with plugins disabled.

I'm pretty sure the audio engines are if not identical, really close. However do bear in mind that musicians have spent an entire lifetime doing ear training. We can discriminate small amplitude differences non-musicians don't hear, but we're still subject to the Fletcher-Munson curve. Even the slightest level mismatch will be perceived as "different" because the sound is hitting a different part of our ear's response curve.

Since doing mastering it's gotten ridiculous...I can hear 0.2 dB differences easily (as in if I blind A-B, then I can pick out the louder one each time).

Yep. 0.1 is typical for me everywhere except above 10k and below 60 - when I'm making fine parametric eq adjustments. I didn't change the playback volume during my comparisons.
I was listening on vintage Auratones driven by a Marantz 1060 with a sub and would be able to easily talk over the volume level. I didn't compare on the Mackie HR824s. Maybe later today for that.
Yea. I believe they're very close.
I'm not convinced they're the same but the difference is not enough to be a big problem.
If I ever have to reprint an older mix that was done in X3 I'll most likely do it from X3 anyway.

I'm happy with splats latency effeciency. It might be slightly better than X3.

Hey Steve,
Just wanted to say there are huge differences in splat vs X3.  All are for the better! + project opening speed (with tons of tracks like you do you will like this, swipe select, and much more etc.

"Edited spelling"
New Tag line so I won't have to keep typing this. I may or may not have edited this yet, but I probably need to.
