Play button doing nothing?

Hi all, it's been a while.

EDIT: well, it looks like switching from ASIO in/out to WDM worked this time (before, it wasn't)... Let's see how long that lasts.
Also- does anyone still have the P5 v2.5.1 update? The sticky link seems to be dead.

For the past few days, I have been unable to use P5 since the play button seems to have lost all (useful) functionality. This used to happen once in a blue moon, and a restart of P5 would remedy it. Now, however, pressing the play button just changes its image to a pressed state (in other words, changes it to a stop button), but nothing else happens- the position marker doesn't move through the song, nothing plays, etc. Restarting P5 doesn't help, and it persists through a reinstall of Project 5. There have been no hardware changes (Razer Barracuda AC-1, ASIO4ALL), and updating ASIO4ALL doesn't make any difference either. Does anyone have any suggestions for remedying this? I was actually on a roll with writing this time, which is a tad disappointing.

might as well throw this in here instead starting another thread...

The Record function is doing nothing.

Im trying to record my mix, but when I make an audio track,  arm the track with the record button and that monitor button, and then hit record, the track plays, and there is an automation ie those loop bars that show up, but there is no audio within it?  Its just an empty loop.  What am i doing wrong?  Instead of recording into Proejct 5, should I just be exporting the entire mix instead of recording?  Im trying to SUM through my mixer.

    my setup

    Rme Fireface 800
    16 channel analogue mixer
    Cakewalk Project 5 2.5

    Thanks Techead!
Not sure why I hadn't noticed it there before... it's only pretty obvious

gothic909, did you select your input source in the left pane?

I selected ASIO Fireface Analogue Input 1 (stereo)

    still nothing...

can someone give me a step by step...

should I be arming each track's record button?

should anything be muted?  should anything be solo'd?

is it actually recording somewhere on my hd, and i have to find it?  Or should a .WAV file show up inside the project?

And lets say a .wav did show up, would I solo the audio channel, and export it next?

    Thanks for any help.

What are you recording from? You say you want to record your mix.... not sure what you mean...

If you want to make an audio file of your P5 project just go to file/export and select what kind of file you want (wave, mp3...etc)...

If you are recording from an external source than arm the audio track and select stereo in.....etd...

Have you tested the input source in other recording programs?

Try going down to the sound icon in the taskbar, right click, and select recording devices. I'm not sure what version of Windows you're on, but Vista and 7 can show you right off the bat whether you're getting any sound out of your input. It's at least a start to pinpointing where the issue lies.

maybe tell us how you have your mixer cabled to the RME and we can figure out what is wrong otherwise use File/Export

i have 8 channel snake going into 8 channels of input on the mixer....and then from mixers "Monitor Outs" I have left and right TRS cables going into input 1 and input 2 on the RME Fireface 800.

The mixer also has main outputs L and R but those are XLR connection.  It also has "ins"  and "rtn" in the main section.  But i've connected the outs that go to the 2 input channels on the RME to the mixers "monitor outs".   And i've connected the XLR main outs to my monitors.   And then in the Audio Input section of the Audio track, i selected the RME Fireface Analog Stereo Input 1 and for output I selected Master Bus.

side question  : When I try to record something that i've mixed on my mixer, where does the .wav save to?  Where does it end up.  How do I take it out of from P5 and into something like Wavelab to edit it?

The wave files from something you recorded in P5 go to whatever folder you told it to save them in. When you "save as" the dialog come up with the folders, and you choose. You also have the option of ticking to have all recorded audio go into a separate folder within the overall project folder. To put the wave file into another app just go to that folder on your hard drive and drag/drop or import or whatever way the other app uses to get wave files into it...

when you record does the meter move on the audio track you intend to record to?

when you hit record you should see a track recorded even if there is no audio signal coming in?

if you do not see a track being recorded the only thing I could find to cause that is having "none" selected as the input on the audio track you are arming.

use your mouse and click on the number of the track that you are going to record to look to the left and see if "none" is chosen for audio input.
