Playback Meter (pre fader-post fader?) and waveform preview.

Hi music lovers!

Reading a post in Craig Anderton’s  Tip of the Week blog, I got to this page
http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Mixing.07.html
Studying this schematic, I first wondered where are my Phase/Interleave buttons in the Track View; well they are visible in the Inspector.
Then I thought how can I change the playback meter from pre- to post-fader is there a button for it? Well not really, you can only change it in the following manners (from Cakewalk Documentation)

To configure Track view meters
Click the Track view Options menu, point to Meter Options and select the desired settings on the submenu.
To configure Track Inspector meters
Click the Display button at the bottom of the Track Inspector, point to Module Options > Meters and select the desired settings on the submenu.
To configure Console view meters
Click the Console view Options menu, point to Meters and select the desired settings on the submenu.

So, e.g. you can set up the Playback meter in the track View as pre-fader (to check the amplitude of your rough unprocessed recording (only the gain button will affect this)) and the Playback meter in the Inspector a s a Post fader to visually see the amplitude effect of the Pro channel, eff binn and volume fader.

OK, well, great. But what about the waveform preview button? Where does that fit in this schedule?
As far as I managed to figure out, that is the same signal as the Playback meter; pre-fader pre-effects, but after the Interleave (stereo or mono).

I’d appreciate the feedback that you guys and girls might have.

F.

Are you talking about the waveform button in the track view for busses?

A change in meters is not going to change your wave form man.
Its simply giving you a visual option of where you want to plug in a measurement.

Looks like the waveform is always post fader and post effects no matter how you configure the meters.

At least changing the meter to pre-fader didn't stop the waveform from changing with the fader (but does stop the meter).

If you want to see the waveform before the fader and the effects you need to setup another "pre" bus that feeds into the actual bus and visualize on it.
