Playback prolem

Hi:

I'm running Sonar 4.02 on a separate boot partition on it's own HD. Win XP, not SP 1 or 2. When I start to playback a trrack, be it midi or audio, it will start, then stop around the 3rd beat of the track (s), and then start again. it will then run smoothly throughout the song. This happens a): no matter which playback device I use, be it spacebar, mouse or FW-1082, and b): no matter where I start playback from. It can be in the middle of a song, or at the beginning. It also applies to all projects. It's not a specific plug-in, either.

I'm not sure what kind of info I could provide other than:

P4 2.6
512M RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
2 17" ProView LCD's

latency is at 5.8ms
WDM drivers
Tascam FW 1082

Does it happen if the FW-1082 is disabled under Options->MIDI Devices? If not then I'd say you're problem lies there. If it does then it's somewhere else.

The other thing that could be worth a try is to close Sonar, delete AUD.INI (from the directory where your Sonar program is stored), open Sonar and try again.

Double check to make sure nothing is interrupting the CPU, like anti-virus, network card, system sounds (should be off), that sort of thing. And yeah.. run wav profiler on the card again.

Are you running in ASIO or WDM mode? If WDM then go into the 1082 control panel and turn on the 'Quick Start ' option for your output. It forces the selected WDM channels to stay open all the time, like ASIO does natively.

I also have a tascam 1082 and had the same problem and figured out it was caused by checking the box (Compensate for converter delays) in the 1082 control panel. Make sure you Uncheck the box and it should fix your problem.

    Hey, Tonester, I'm new here.

I just got a 1082, and I'm trying to set it up with Sonar 4. I see that you use WDM drivers. Do you recommend those over ASIO?

(I don't even know if this is a dumb question because I know so little about what I'm doing. Today was the first time I played my midi piano into the 1082 with Sonar and I got very poor results - only one note of chord playing, random amount of latency, sometimes a key made a sound and sometimes it didn't. I'm just trying to get it all working.)

    Thanks!
