Playback takes 2 seconds before starting

This is something right away when I started using X1b and it is still there in X1c.

Note that my metronome count in is set to 0 beats;

The problem: There is a 2 seconds delay between the time I press play and the time the playback
                      actually starts.

I also have 8.5 still installed and I can confirmed that this is not happening with 8.5

I am opened to suggestion on what to check.

Note that I have an I7-930 ystem with 6G of RAM purely dedicated to audio so speed is not an
issue.

Well  I have found, by accident, the way to reproduce it.

I am working on a file that is 2.5 hours long. You will experience the delay.

However, once the file has been shorten to 28 minutes the delay is not there or, if it is,
    it is not noticeable.

S8.5 doesn't have a problem handling playback of this 2.5 hours long file; actually, the file
    has been recorded using 8.5

What's your audio interface and what driver mode are you using? What hardware buffer latency setting are you using? What OS?

Listing your system specs can get you faster and more accurate help.

I was posting when you were posting your last post, so I didn't see it til I posted my 1st post.

Well, there it is. Just finish the project in 8.5.3.

I don't know why some users have problems with projects started in prior versions of SONAR. But what seems to be the easiest solution is to finish the project in the SONAR version it was started in.

Mario, what are your I/O buffers set to in Sonar's options? I get the same thing you mentioned when my buffers are higher than 512. 256 is default...so you can try that and see how you fair. You can even try dropping to 128 for faster response...but each time you lower the number, it puts a bit more strain on your hard drives. Raising the number allows for more tracks...but brings on a delay when you press play. Make sure the read/write tick boxes in I/O are NOT checked. You shouldn't need them as long as you're using 7200 RPM drives or faster. I'd definitely do as Thomas suggests though....I always label my projects "X1" if I do the work in X1 because I've had a few issues with older projects being brought in to X1. So if I start something in 8.5, I finish it there. If I start in X1, I finish it there. Good luck.
