Playback track bleeding into record track

Hi everyone, I am having a very annoying problem with my computer when recording music (or trying to). I just purchased Music Creator 5, and when I record a new audio track, it works great, and sounds very clear. The problem is when I go to lay down another track, the playback track gets recorded into the record track, even with nothing plugged into any output. I have read other forums, but I just can't seem to figure out what is going on, so I'll give my setup and hope for the best, since my knowlege base on this stuff is limited. I am running Windows Vista 64 bit, I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD soundcard, and I usually just plug whatever I record into the microphone jack on the soundcard itself (guitar, mic, keyboard, etc), and for music creator 5 I am using ASIO drivers for the input/output. Any ideas on what I should do would be insanley appreciated, since I am going insane trying to figure out what I am doing wrong!

Most if not all Sound Blasters have a setting called WhatUHear which sends everything you hear to the input, thus recording it on all the tracks.
    Turn that off.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I tried to disable the whatuhear setting through the volume control, and tested out cakewalk again, and it is still having the playback bleeding problem. Am I missing something simple in a setting somewhere, or is my computer just trying to drive me insane (which seems more logical at this point in time)? And thank you for the quick replies folks, hope my non sound savy skills don't annoy too much.

    Have a look at this:
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1370491

Note: It will not help you directly, but may help identify what you are looking for.
This illustration uses the Win XP mixer. Stereo Mix is the same as "What-u-hear". This directs the sound card output to a record input. That's not what you want.
You need to isolate the input you are using as the record source.
This will be what the sound card sends to MC.
I could not get a hold of a manual, but I did find the quick start guide.
It mentions being able to route the signal through various busses, but does not go into detail.
Tell us what you see, what your options are, and if possible, include some screen shots. Be as specific as you can.
I'm not giving you a hard time. We can't see what you can and we need your eyes.

Ok, sorry I haven't been on here in a few days. Thank you for the last post, and I know it is difficult to know exactly how to help when every computer is different, so I uploaded some screenshots of the basic sound card and windows setup for the input/output. I hope this can shed some light on how I have setup my sound incorrectly.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/64424677@N02/

I think you need to change the Creative ASIO Mix FL to... something else. What are the options under the drop-down arrow?

    Any idea what they mean?
It seems that 'Mix' in the recording options may be sending the mix to whatever input you're recording on, which includes the already-recorded stuff. Just a guess, though.

Unfortunately, those are the only options available for the ASIO driver input. I am at a loss on what to do with it, and may just have to use a different driver that functions correctly (and also lose sound quality in the process).

Well, it's not the driver. The driver has nothing to do with how the audio is routed; that would be the sound card.
So you haven't tried those other recording input options?

Those look very much like: Front Left, Rear Left, Front Center, Rear Center or SubLoudspeaker, but unfortunately that makes no sense to me :o/

Or...could some Surround setting give Front Right, Rear Right etc. as options on another track??

At least make sure you're not in a surround mode or something like that.
