Playing with Fire - remastered from a 30 year old 4 track cassette

I found a huge box full of my old 2 and 4 track cassettes!

This song was one of the first I'd written ( I was 18 at the time) and recorded. I had two Sony cassette decks, and had to bounce from one to the other for each new "track". playing along or singing to the first deck and recording both into the second, then visa-versa. What you printed is what you got! How many of us cut our teeth on this method?

So nice to have Sonar to run it through 30 years later. I'll post the original cassette recording if anyone wants.

30 years later I can say that kid had heart! And the fight to record it this way made the songs so much more I think.

Amazing sound considering what it came from and how it was made. I think the mix itself sounds like a lot of those old rock mixes. Reminds me of when I listened to 8 tracks....ugh I'm feeling very old.

    Thanks Starise.

I remember spending so much time getting the sound as "right" as I could, and not accepting any take unless I was very sure of it. And I loved EVERY minute of it. I don't think anything I've done digitally has every had the heart I put into these songs.

Excellent job on that recording and song composition Gavin

    Very 80's rock.

And at 18 too... Amazing... I think I was in my early twenties when I got my 244 Portastudio, and I loved it, but I never got anything like that done. You're bouncing skills were top notch there dood

Thankfully, I don't have a cassette play so I won't be uploading my terrible 4 track stuff any time soon

Could do with cutting the silence at the end I guess, although having that silence has given my ears a bit of a rest, so I suppose I should say thanks for that haha!

    cheers

    Sounds really good to me.

Sounds like the bass was the last track recorded.

Wow, surprised this came off a cassette! Your effort to create a solid recording really paid off. :)

Thank you SmallStoneFan. I'm getting deep into mixing now and I hope I can learn everything I need to. I feel like I'm so far from where I need to be :-)

I'm working on a mix of a song I did a number of years back myself - my tools and experience have improved. Well, at least my tools have... :)

Absolutely great sound quality, considering how it was recorded and the medium used. It makes you think if having all this technology does actually get in the way of the recording process.

Thanks Lynn, but mine sounded very puny before Sonar got ahold of them :-)

Yeah, that sounds really good for cassette format.   Sounds like inspired playing to me.

I have some old stuff too but like others it doesn't sound anything like this!  And I don't think SONAR could make it so.
