Please Confirm this

I was wanting to use a song from a commercial CD as a referance file inside of a Sonar CWP. I have several DZ files in another directory that I use in Samp to check mastering etc. I do not want extra copies of these files on my hard drive so I unchecked copy file on import check box. Sonar copied the file anyway. I looked in options/global found another check box cleared that one too, but Sonar continues to copy these files to the project / audio directory. It's not supposed to do this with both unchecked is it?

This used to be a problem for me as well until I noticed the audio bit rate. Of course, for the best mixing quality, we mostly prefer to track in 24 bits, but cd audio is always 16 bit. What happens is that when Sonar detects you're trying to import 16 bit wav and your project is at 24 bit, it will SRC the the wav into a 24 bit copy despite your import settings.

The workaround, of course, is to set the project to 16 bit while importing. Sonar, however, will peg the project at 16 bit so if you want to work at 24 bit, you might have to delete the imported 16 bit wav when you're through with it or... you might want to upsample the 16 bit file prior to importing.

Yep 24 bit here. Just been deleting them when I was finished. I guess this will work in Sonar 5 because you can mix bitrates of the audio in the same project. I guess we'll see real soon!
