Please Help!! All must go!!!

I know this doesn't really belong in this "section" (as I've already posted in the "gear" forum), but I'm posting here so more eyes see this (and possibly help me out).. So please keep the "flaming" to a minimum..

"Hello all,
I got the worst news EVER yesterday. I found out that effective November 1, 2008 that my place of employment is closing it’s doors for good. I’ve been an employee there for over 10 years. Granted, there have been good times and bad times over the years (due to the lovely economy), but I never imagined this would happen!!
As a result, and after a very long convo with my wife, I’ve got to put my passion for creating music on “hold” once again. I HATE to do this, but everything in my “home studio” is up for sale so I can try to provide for my family through this rough time. I’ve got mouths to feed and bills to pay as do many of you do, and unemployment just doesn’t do that.
All of the items in my “signature” are on the “chopping block”. There are also other items I have that aren’t in my signature that are also available. Later today I will be posting a thread on the Gearslutz forum in the “classifieds” section (with pics and prices).. Please also keep in mind that I just did a total overhaul of my studio less than (6) months ago, so all of my “hardware” is in MINT condition (ADAM A7’s, Presonus Eureka, PCR-800, Axiom 49, Motu Ultralite, and custom built ADK Core2 Quad). Also, the UAD-1 Extreme Pak (license transferable to new owner) is only around 4 months old also. The one thing which I have NO idea of what to do with is my I-Lok and Waves GTR3. Are there licenses transferable also, or no?
So if any of you guys/gals know of anyone looking to upgrade their current gear or just looking to add something to their current setup, please send them my way. Any “reasonable” offer will be accepted. Since I’m not a big fan of E-bay anymore, I figured I’d try this route first.

I’d also like to thank you guys/gals on this forum, you guys rock!!

It’s a sad, sad, day here in lovely MI..

Jason

hope things work out. I think you should reconsider ebay. In my opinion this will net you the most money, being a highly liquid marketplace.

    Jason,

Sorry to hear of your tough times....I believe I may be in a position to help out but I also second that you use ebay...it is pretty fair and has protections for both buyers and sellers.

    Thanks all..
I'm going to need all the luck I can since I do work predominately for the automotive industry (which we all know sucks here in Michigan)..
Duojet: I will eventually place what I don't sell either thru this forum or Gearslutz on E-bay.. Lately, E-bay has just been rubbing me the wrong way (no pun intended)!!!

reason and guitar rig are transferable

with the NI thing, I guess you'd have to de-authorise it on the machines you have it installed before they would do any sort of transfer.

sorry to hear about the job, hopefully something will turn up soon.

    Hey Fog,
Sorry about the confusion.. It's Waves GTR3 (not GR3). That's why I was questioning the I'Lok thingy..

    Sorry to hear that.

I noticed that you own a Reason 4 license.
Maybe you allready know, but you can sell a Reason 4 license officially. You can transfer a license on the Propellerhaeds website, so you can ask money for the license. A new license costs according to the propellerheads store $499. You could even sell it worldwide, since the new owner can order replacement disks (when havig a license) for $33.
So your second hand Reason license is worth a lot of money.

I hope to help with this information.
Unfortunately I cannot help buying, I allready own a license.

I wish you strength and send greetings to your wife also.

Well, after talking to Mike from ADK, it looks like the I-Lok and GTR3 is also transferrable to a potential buyer. Yes, I already knew about the Reason 4.0 being transferrable, but thanks anyway..

my place of employment is closing it’s doors for good

    Hello,

Scary indeed. If misery loves company, I've been fired or quit from more jobs (in management to boot) than most people have had in their careers. You will get through. There are on-line resources for job hunting and freelance work that no one would have dreamed of back when you took this job 10 year ago. You've still got a paycheck or two. Hopefully there is a severance check too and you mention unemployment benefits.

I wouldn't give up your studio if that's what makes you happy. There is no reason to feel guilty or do penance it's not your fault the company has folded. It would be your fault if you didn't show strong resolve and if you neglected to enjoy your family because you are focusing on your own situation. Do not take the attitude that you are shocked and stunned "I never imagined this would happen!!" it happens all the time and people make adjustments and survive.

You're not going to get very much out of the sale your studio for paying expenses and you'll have no studio. I'd keep the computer, video monitors and interface, I'd sell off the ADAM's and get $200/pr monitors and sell everything else. You can easily get by with Sonar 7 and nothing else. Their will be times of great anxiety where you will realize that your family believes in you. It's also nice to be able to kick back at the end of the day (of job hunting or working at an interim job) crack a beer and fire up the DAW.

Don't neglect this time as being "on hold" until you get back on your feet. These "unemployed, struggling" days are just as important as the days of triumph and should still be enjoyed (including music) don't waste them feeling sorry for yourself.

    Hey Geo..

Thanks for the advice.. No, I'm not gonna let this get me down emotionally or spiritually. I've been laid-off before (the bad times stated before) but it was always a 2-weeks stint here, a month there.. But I always was able to keep my nose above water. But this time it's a little bit different.. And the weird thing is I didn't see this one coming.. All the previous "lay-offs" I encountered, I could see them coming due to no work coming in.. I've also seen much slower workloads than at the current time.. But I also know that my boss has his hands in "other" businesses and such. So, who knows, when it comes to money, people do strange things..
I'm not the type to sit idle and let time pass me by. I'll find something. I know I will.. It's just around these parts, there's not much to choose from (if you're trying to support a family)..

    Thanks again for your advice..

Times are tough all round, what has allevieted some of it is doing service swops etc. and working on a barter system. for example I have a client who cant afford to record at the moment but he can build websites--I need a website deal done (not the one in my signature thats a temp), I'm sure if you look hard enough there are things that the studio can do for you. are there some local musicians that want a demo that can provide a service for you? Fix your car? look after the kids?
is there a community radio station that needs a jingle and in turn can mention your name for services?
is there a local jobsite that needs some stings for its page and in return will let you have 1st notice of interesting jobs?
are there local kids that want to learn a bit about music production for a small fee?
In the past (years ago) i was a member of such a scheme and played at a community event and in return I was brought round hot meals a few times a week by various people on the commitee.
I know that it doesnt seem like much but in the past I have had the chice of studio rent or flat rent and choose studio rent so I had to squat and take showers at railway stations. It ALWAYS gets better and the more you look for ways for your musical and studio abilities to help out the more they will (Even in the most unlikely ways).
    Hope this helps

The OP may not be offended, but I am. Please, the original comment wasn't addressed to you and you have to introduce this negativity to this thread? People with religious views don't have an obligation to always keep them a secret and while they are typically not something appropriate alone for this forum, in this case it was certainly appropriate. I am offended by your response but certainly don't think you don't have a right to post your opinion. Despite my religious views I wouldn't have been offended by anyone wishing "Allah" or "Yaweh" or "Budda" good vibes to someone on hard times. Do you get as offended whenever someone posts something with the word "karma" in it? Do you oppose people saying "Merry Christmas"? If not, then I can only surmise that you have a huge chip on your shoulder regarding Christianity and need to look up what "preach" actually means. ThanX for pouring water on the whole good vibe this thread was carrying...

i just sent you something from my Yahoo e-mail.. for some reason I can't send e-mail through the address I posted here. let me know if you've received the e-mail.. If you did, I'll post my yahoo address instead of the one I have listed currently..

I won't be able to check the email address I gave you until I get home from work(about 3 hours from now...I am in Hawaii). Don't hold anything for me if you get a decent offer from someone else beforehand. I certainly won't be offended.

    Best,

no offence intended but please keep your reilgious views out of this forum , I dont preach my (somewhat bizarre) views to you.

I have PM-ed you so as not to hijack the thread
