Please help - Quad Capture issues after initial recording experiments

Using ASIO driver, I had my Quad Capture set to 192kHZ sampling rate in order to get latency down to 1.7ms, but once I began recording, things got a little messy... popping etc on playback.

In the Quads Control Panel > Driver settings, I've reset sampling rate to 96kHz with buffer still at minimum.
This results in the Sonar X1 preferences bit-depth selector being greyed-out and set to 24bit and my Total Round Trip Latency up to 7.2 ms - not too cool.

When I start a new project it indicates 96/16 - getting confused!

Please help!

Why are you recording at 192kHz?

If you are on Windows 7 try a buffer size of 64 samples at 44,100 or 48,000 Hz and see how you get on with that.

The actual measured RTL for 24bit/48000Hz is a total of 7.4 ms on my machine, although Sonar reports a total of 9 ms.  Neither figure is particularly slow for round trip.

If you think of actual measured speeds between 9-12ms as acceptable, 6-9ms as good and less than 6ms as excellent.

The project depth and bit rate is set in Sonar and will overide what your driver is set to anyway so you will need to set your required rates in Sonar first of all.

rtl 7.4 sounds similar to my situation. On YouTube, Cakewalk's Brandon Ryan talks about 1.5 ms latency - how do I get the numbers down to that?

You'll find those settings I gave a 64 sample buffer will equate to 1.3ms latency, just like Brandon talks about, which will equal 7.4ms round trip.

Did you want to record with that interface or did you want to break speed records?

I track and mix at those settings and even monitor through the card, it is no slouch.
