    hi, iRofl and welcome!

we'll need to know a lot more about your system before we can start to help.  are you using your onboard soundcard?  if not, what make/model?  what mic?  how are you plugging it in?  into the 1/8" jack of the onboard soundcard?  through USB?  what operating system do you have?  when you say you don't hear music any more after you plug the mic in, do you mean IN MC or do you mean in windows media player or what?  and what versino of MC do you have?  is it MC5 or MC5LE?

give us as much info as you can.

I am a MC5 noob and it took me days and lots of yelling at my computer and cursing Cakewalk to figure out how to hear and record stuff. Just keep using this forum and listen to these guys they have helped me immeasurably. Don't get too frustrated.

Reading the manual and doing the tutorials ( if MC has them) properly is the first step.

And adding your hardware and software specs to your signature is a very usefull thing to get answers quicker. Like in this case - if your mic happens to be a USB mic, it makes a world of difference
    concerning the solution.

The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
