It's a contraction of the phrase 'St Botolph's Town'.
Lincolnshire is a very flat county, and St Botolph was able to invent Battenburg while out for a stroll without hindrance from the peaks and troughs of say, the East Ridings. By sheer coincidence, Battenburg is made up of squares, much like other things that are too.

I just got netflix and watched *the crown*. So enjoyable and full of history. You've got to give it to the royal family, they are curators of a rich cultural tradition.

According to the Eurobarometer report 2012, 39% of the French population speaks English. That includes people living in the countryside. Which means that in a big city like Paris or Bordeaux where there are a lot of tourists, the percentage of people speaking English is likely to be much higher.

Depends how Eurobarometer (who ?) get their info. The village where i live certainly don't come into the 39% average.
Is a bar-o-meter a quiz done in the local hostellerie, if so once the Pastis intake rises, so does the English output ? Is there a set ratio ?
